Barack Obama Wins!

In Dixville Notch, New Hampshire. Obama wins 15-6.

Bit of a surprise as in the last election it was 73% Republican, and before that 80% Republican, each time for George Bush.

The Democrats haven't won Dixville Notch since 1968.

Dixville Notch has 20 registered voters, which is strange because 15+6=21.

Hart's Location goes to Obama as well, 17-10, with 2 votes going to Ron Paul and none to Ralph Nader.

The swingometer is off the charts and the analysts are asking whether Ron Paul could split the Republican vote. After the first 50 votes, there are only 100 million+ to go.

or another way,

some results are announced at 11 tonight but Alaska doesn't close until 5 am six hours later!!

WEEKS ago. 24.4 million votes have already been cast.

one of the odd things about the American system and apparently not all states have early voting. it occurs to me this might make "calling" the election on the basis of exit polls rather tricky unless they are keeping track of running totals of previous weeks voting.

Absolutely right. The exit polls will not take about 20% of the votes into consideration.

New Hampshire has an old rule that if there are no more voters -- 100% of the roll has voted -- then that town, village or civil subdivision can close their polls.

These two tiny towns gather all their voters in a ballroom or firehouse, and they all vote at once, close and announce.

In the case of Hart's Location (about an hour away) the town owes its existence to a railroad, and the custom apparently started when some genius asked everyone to vote at the 12 AM shift change, either coming on shift, getting off shift, or just being neighborly.

I have come to the conclusion this election pretty pointless anyway. Voter fraud, bad or missing ballots, early voting (what the hell is THAT crap all about), intimidation, lost votes, media misreporting, etc etc.

It potentially makes the result, and thus the election, completely unreliable and worthless. If Obama wins it will not be a victory for anything special - it just meant he knew how to break the system without people realising.

Is that 11pm our time or US time ?

our time, its another perversity of that great voting nation, that people can be voting and be fully aware of how half the country has already voted.

hello all,
So who are you rooting for in the election? I hope we have a better turnout of voters than they predict----only 62% or so.

The Canadian election was even worse in that only 53% of voters bothered to show up and have a say in getting Harper out-----did not happen!

for a positive day.....life coach

what, by get people to actually go out and vote? yes, that is a novel approach to elections.

as for this time thing... you do realise thats unofficial results based on pollsters? the actual real results wont be known till some time tommorrow once votes have been physically counted, just like here.
