A badly burned body has been found on a golf course at Carnoustie in Angus.
Greenkeepers discovered the man's body near the 11th tee of the Buddon course at Carnoustie at about 0640 GMT.
Tayside Police have cordoned off the area while detectives and scenes of crime officers attempt to establish the identity of the dead person.
The Buddon course has been closed and the public has been asked to stay away, but the neighbouring Championship and Burnside courses have reopened.
Det Ch Insp Graham McMillan, who is leading the investigation, said greenkeepers had been preparing the Carnoustie courses when one of them saw what appeared to be a body on fire and called the police.
"On their arrival they found a body lying by the 11th tee with fire damage. It was smouldering at that time," he said.
"Thereafter it was treated as a suspicious incident. The area was cordoned off and a tent was erected to protect the body."
Mr McMillan added that a forensic investigation was being carried out within the tented area and the body would be taken to the police mortuary at Dundee on Wednesday afternoon.

A post-mortem examination will take place on Thursday morning. Mr McMillan said police were keeping an "open mind" on the cause of death. He said that about 20 officers were working at the scene. There was nothing at present to indicate that an accelerant had been used, he said.
The officer added that there were some items nearby which were being forensically retrieved.
Vivienne Scott, who works at the nearby Caledonia Golf Club, said: "It's pretty horrific. People come from all over the world to play on the Carnoustie golf course.
"That [the Buddon course] was one of the courses that the locals play rather than people coming to play the championship.
"Carnoustie's not like that. It's not a violent place at all. We don't get anything like that.
"We never expect it to happen in Carnoustie, never."
Rhonda Gall, who works in Simpsons Golf Shop, said: "I was coming in to work this morning and the Burnside was closed off and there were police standing there.
"Then I heard through the grapevine that there was a body.
"It was a bit spooky. It gives you a shiver up your spine, especially happening in Carnoustie."
Anyone who was in the area on Wednesday morning and may have seen anything that could assist officers should contact Tayside Police.
The Buddon course is one of three situated on the Carnoustie Golf Links, including the famous Carnoustie Championship course which hosted the Open Championship last year.
The par-66 course opened in 1979, and was designed by BBC golf commentator Peter Allis.
