A perspective from the Coventry end (behind the 'penalty goal)

I've just got back from Coventry, where a mate gave me a ticket for the game. I stood behind the goal where the 'penalty' was scored. I haven't spoken to any Albion fans since the game and it's been interesting to see how people saw the game from the away end. Here are just a couple of points on where I saw things a bit differently from most of the people on here:

1. The performance was actually quite good. We looked up for it from the start and were the better team in the first half - I didn't hear one Coventry fan say otherwise. They did have the better of the second half, but then again they were at home and with our injuries/suspensions it was always going to be difficult.

Everyone slagging of players on other threads is way off the mark. Especially McCammon, who I thought had a reasonable game. If we play like this in our remaining away games we will get some points.

The huddle at the end, by the way, was an obvious 'well done lads, keep it up, surely these bastard refs can't keep robbing us' morale boosting, siege-creating pep talk.

2. The commitment of the team was absolutely brilliant. I heard comment after comment from Coventry fans about how we looked like we wanted it more. And they were right. The effort put in by ALL of the lads was great to see. Once again (and I hate saying it because it looks like sour grapes) we were shafted by a poor official.

On the subject of the referee, our 2 different positions in the ground doesn't alter the opinion of the officials. The Coventry fans couldn't believe the penalty. Most of them didn't realise it was one until McSheffry picked up the ball and put it on the spot.
Some of the other decisions were actually met with laughter. The Coventry fans were absolutely delighted with 3 points, but they knew that without that set of officials there was no way they would have had all 3.

In short, we were unlucky. Again. Not really the player's or the manager's fault. I was unbelievably angry yesterday at the game, but afterwards actually quite proud. Let's keep our heads held high and give the lads our support! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Can you ask the Coventry fans where they found the ref who favours home fans and book him for the Leicester game :lolol:

Good to see a positive posting this evening.

Me and my mate spoke to a Cov STH after the game and he was overjoyed with the result but conceeded the ref won it for them. He thought (as we did) that a draw would have been fair - but pointed out that Cov need the points more than us ....

Asked him to ensure Cov now beat Forest, Plymouth and Crewe to help us out.

I had a friend right behind the goal, just under the upper tier.

As soon as the whistle went he texted me with the message.

"f*** knows?"

After the game he said he was embarresed by the result because we deserved a draw.

and on reflection i agree with this thread and with my in law IF WE PLAY LIKE THAT WE WILL STAY UP but we must stay confident seeing the players when Coventry toled the story they lack belief

But thanks MM for getting them to come over and show the fans that it aint over yet

After the game we were walking back to the car when some Coventry fans came up and, genuinely, said bad luck. They then asked "What the f*** was the penalty for?".
Once in the car we tuned into West Midlands radio that coves Coventry and had the equivalent of Hartys phone in. Not one fan knew why the penalty had been given and of course everyone of them was delighted with their luck.
A Brighton fan called in and the presenter said to him what a fantastic crowd the Albion fans had been. Were we always like that|? Of course the bloke replied but shit lousy at Withdean.
The away support should have been worth a point at every away game!!!

When the Penalty was given by the ref, Alan Cork (wanker) punched his fist in the air. In the first half he was completely quiet and he didn't even say one word he was stuck in the corner next to the dugout.

He's fully entitled to do that, he's paid by Coventry now. What did you expect him to do, complain to the ref that he liked us and to take back the penalty?

out of interest, was it a brighton fan that was escorted out of the coventry end as i thought i could see a blue and white striped shirt underneath his other clobber. was it you s_y_p?
what was all the commotion down the front with the stewards by our fans? kept blocking the view of our fans, inconsiderate bastards. :nono:

I personally can't fault our performance or the comitment shown in the game but it's a bitter pill to take when your robbed by a bent ref like that.

We need to say possitive though! It was our best performance for a while and if we play like that in the remaining game we will have a chance. Who knows we might catch preston on a bad night tomorrow. Fingers crossed anyway.
