As Goodfella says, it was 5 minutes, not 3 minutes.

It's a rule that allows posters to edit their own messages for a limited time after posting them. After this time limit only moderators are able to edit or delete the message.

I've extended the limit to 10 minutes, just to keep Icy Gull happy.

I've noticed that if you edit within the time, it doesn't show it on the post. That's handy.

I was looking at some board settings the other day and noticed the edit settings were quite strange in the way they were configured.

The main aim is to allow people to make a post and, when reading it back, go in and correct any mistakes.

If you edit really quickly (ie, currently within a minute', no "edited by..." will show up. This is because it is highly likely that you are just correcting a typo etc.

I was wondering if anyone would notice that the settings had changed slightly.

Users starting a new thread should also be able to edit the subject if they've made a typo there too and/or want to make the title more relevant to the actual thread contents.
