I don't know how to link the local papers (LeekPost & Times, and The Senitnel) However many of you are familiar with 'Cheddleton house fire murder case' in which four people died. Understandablely feelings are running high in the area. The judge, sentenced Goldstraw to the maximum term at least 35 years. Is that reasonable ? Or should it mean LIFE ? :albion:

This case is a disgrace- the guy should be locked up for life meaning he dies in prison. He is clearly a very dangerous person.

It's a minimum of 35 years and that means he will be 66 even before he is considered for parole.

Considering that he has killed before, it would be very unlikely that he would ever be paroled.

Given what clippedgull has just said, it seems he won't let out, ever.

And as for hanging - no thanks. We're a civilized nation.

just think that some murderes should be killed off rather than using up tax payers money keeping them alive in relative comfort with the possibilty of escape (admittedly very slim)

Like Huntley an Shipman, who both preferred the option of death when faced with a life behind bars, reflecting on what they had done?

Exactly. It's a MINIMUM of 35 years. It's basically a way of putting him away for the rest of his life whilst adhering to the laws requiring judges to give times rather than imprisoning indefinately.

It's always easy to say, "bring back the death penalty". But as Simster said, we're a civilised nation.

Who doubted the Guildford 4 were guilty?? Not many. So they would be dead by now. That's what would happen
