It's great around this time of year but the days they have off for Christmas and New Year kill the momentum of the tournament somewhat and it goes on too long (into next year). No other sports or competitive events have breaks in between apart from the Tour De France, which is understandable given how physically exhausting THAT is.

Before we get too carried away by the brilliance of the darts, let's take a moment of reflection for THE voice of darts, who has sadly left us this year.

The tournament's been named the Sid Waddell trophy, after his death earlier this year. Sorely missed with his quirky and brilliant commentary.

Why wait for his death? :( Should have been done years ago.

The man will not be forgotten, and rightly so.

Changing the tone a touch, Adrian Lewis is a pompous bellend, I'd love to see him lose. Early, and BADLY.

It happens so often with famous or deserving people that they never get the chance to see the tribute.

I agree with you about Adrian Lewis. He is an arrogant tool. I think he cheated on his girlfriend when she was expecting? Would like to see Terry Jenkins finally land a major trophy.

Lewis loses the first set 3-0 to an unknown Dutch debutant. I've always thought Lewis to be a bit of a prick so I'd be quite happy to see him embarrassed.

In terms of a winner, I'd like to see Simon Whitlock do it.

Lewis should finish this off, but he's looked shit. A more experienced and consistent player would have beaten him on tonight's performance.
