The French have single-handedly (ho ho) made yacht racing what it is today. Most of the world's best single-handed yachtsmen and women are French, most of the most important races are French organised, run and sponsored. As someone who loves this sport, I gotta thank 'em for that.

Boulogne. Yes, Northern France, but absolutley lovely. Especially the old town.
Great cheese, great wine, great pop music (Brel's Belgian but there's still Brassens and Gainsbourg), the ability to look cool at all times, a transport system that works, an understanding of cafe culture, great coffee, wonderful poetry (Rimbaud, Baudelaire, Verlaine, Prevert etc).
And really friendly and warm people (well outside Paris they are).
I love France, my favourite holiday place. Always will be.

-Friendly people in BOTH Paris and the countryside who helped us when we were lost
-The Alpine country in the east near the Swiss border
-Parisian women (they take care of themselves, don't get knocked up at an early age like in England, and there are lots of beautiful mixed race women there)
-Good quality grass roots football with government support for infrastructure like stadiums, etc. (an idea they copied from us in Australia)
-The fact that they demonstrate that they are an independent country and don't blindly follow the Americans into every single war, have their own independent nuclear arsenal (not US controlled like Britain) and have no US bases on their soil (which undermines the ability to be politically independent at times of crisis).
