Coach Party for me last Friday in Guildford's aptly-named Boileroom. As usual, a great set of banging tunes. Support from experimental post-punks Alien Chicks and a lovely acoustic set from Stu Spiller of Panda Swim. All for less than £20 (fees included😀).
Saw noisy shoegazers bdrmm a couple of nights ago. Fantastic set, can't help thinking that they deserve to be bigger than they are.
Great support from DEK, loud, innovative dance-influenced electrogaze duo.
Yes, good to see plenty of life in the Brighton scene, will have a look at Genn. I'm also over 50 but remember going to loads of gigs as a teenager, we lived for live music, but it doesn't seem to be the case for teenagers/20 somethings now. I don't know what's changed.
Bullingdon, Oxford last night. Coach Party, always brilliant, supported by the excellent Girl Scout, and Brighton's Holler who were also very good.
Again, surprised and quite saddened by the audience...mostly over 40 and mostly male. Three up and coming young bands but there were very few...
Placebo last night in Portsmouth. Finally caught up with them in a reasonably small venue. Good mix of old and new stuff. Strangely, the biggest reaction was for their cover of Tears for Fears 'Shout'. Lights/backdrop were impressive but thought the sound could have been better, seemed a bit...
Boileroom, Guildford last night. The excellent Coach Party. Luckily I caught the support band, Tummyache. Impressive. Great night of music for just £6 a ticket, a two for one promo to get people back to gigs. Disappointing to see so few youngsters given that the bands are relatively young.
Slowdive at Komedia, Bath last night. Lovely to see them again after too many years. Excellent they were, too, and what a great venue. Support from Mildred Maude, interesting 'freeform' noise merchants, just the one song in the set!
Johnny Marr at Pryzm, Kingston last night. Bloody marvelous seeing him in such a small venue. He was superb, as usual! 5 Smiths songs, 2 Electronic songs and a good selection of his own excellent stuff.
Definitely worth considering. I'd be there but have gigs the three previous nights😱Laulia in Reading, Beach Riot at the Boileroom and Blood Red Shoes in Bristol! I'm getting too old for that level of punishment 😅
A great artist who puts everything she can into her music and is also very approachable. Loved Throwing Muses so it was wonderful to see her again after a gap of nearly 30 years St Paul's in Worthing will be a superb venue in which to see her.
....and Kristin Hersh (who promises to be loud on this occasion)
She's touring with a band (Fred Abong was with her in Throwing Muses and Rob Ahler in 50 Foot Wave) so should be noisy! Seeing her in March in Reading.
Blood Red Shoes (honourary one of our own) supported by Beach Riot (definitely one of our own) in Kingston last night. Both very good indeed. BRS new stuff much fuller sound with 4-piece band.
