Daniel Kahneman has a whole section on reversion to mean in his book thinking fast and slow. In America it's called the sports Illustrated cover curse/
weirdly popped up in my thread, wouldn't normally of watched but glad i did, (at least if we get relegated I would say it's this guy that jinxed it not me!
someone mentioned that in the preseason JP had quite some following in Japan. then this popped up in my youtube feed:
I don't speak a word of Japanese (I did recognized "Ben White" though I'm not sure recognizing another name said in a foreign accent counts as speaking the language - might...
it was difficult for me to follow, but at one point in this I think the finance guy is saying what I was trying to say about the amortisation piling up and creating a problem down the road.
are we missing CBs on the bench?
I thought Weir was MF, but am I imagining that I saw Weir play CB in the pre season?
do Estupinan or Offiah ever play CB insead of LB/RB. I think I have seen Estupinan in a three at the back.
As my failing accounting exam results from 30 years ago tell me, I should step out of any accounting discussion, as I will appear an idiot. but I will ignore good sense and continue here.
I was using one player to try and keep it simple. but perhaps that does not help here.
lets say I'm...
in my example we only buy and sell in year 1 and do nothing in year 2.
the only difference between the two examples is how we apply amortisation.

My apologies for not being clear, communication is not my strongest trait. I was not attempting to say that. what I, perhaps unclearly, was trying to say, is that people are talking about amortization as if it is beneficial, but it is net zero.
If we buy a player for 100m and sell a player for...
(no disrespect to @El Presidente ) I [expletive] hate the "dont worry ... amortisation" view on the finances. it is short-termism, that would make the average financial shenanigans of the CEO finagling his bonus blush.
that amortisation basically means that in 2025, through 2029 we have 32m...
in fact, we have so much depth in most positions, maybe our away kit should just be a long macintosh coat, and then they will all play and no one will be disgruntled about not making the bench.
* what's the etiquette on replying to your own posts ... feels wrong
interestingly they pointed out the cost of our back 5 (3m) vs theirs, so I thought I would double check
(transfer values in euros from transfermarkt)
Steele 0
Veltman ~1m
JPVH ~2m
Dunk 0
Hinshelwood 0
so they were approximately correct about us and them:
Onana ~50m
Dalot ~22m
Martinez ~57m...
when i was a wee young un, I was unable to separate our replay loss and our relegation, so I blamed them for all our subsequent woes. as an older person, I, of course, understand they were not the reason, but that visceral feeling never left me.
