I once thought, as we all do, I would be young forever. I was in my prime and when I looked around me, everyone else was too.
But the illusion of invincibility evaporated one afternoon in May 1983, a home game against Manchester City.
Near the Station the Queens Head was heaving...
Cheers Washy, I can think of nothing I would rather do than document that
wonderful period. With the right images inside it would be a great story and

Cinderella's at Hickstead. Good stuff Seagurn. I do remember coming out of there one night and my mate realised he was over the limit. He begged me to drive his dad's Ford Capri home but it was snowing like mad and the car
was spinning out all over the place. No traction at all in those cars...

Thanks to everyone who has added their memories to this thread.
Each one shared has been, for me, like getting a little bit of my life back and
much appreciated. I have at times been reminded of things i'd long forgotten.
Mention today the ‘Twin Towers’ and the association is immediate and...
Just checked in quickly to see the great memories others are sharing and I am
made up that so many people have positive recollections.

Hey Marlton I do remember him. He was unmissable with a big bison sized head hahaha there were a few big lads back then and I do rember the double gutbuster :) the most I could ever stomach after a night in the town was beans on toast and I used to leave half of that :)

Duke Street today is a chic thoroughfare of elegant shops and classy bars. As you enter from West Street, on the top left hand side, a fashionable footwear store sells re-issues of iconic footwear from the 1980's.
Aptly enough, at the time, this spot was the home of the sports-shop of choice...
