[Food] Where to buy old fashioned lard, in the Brighton conurbation?

Plenty of lard arses on here I'm sure so....

My vet has recommended lard for my cat to eat to help her skin/fur mowing issues.

Not the highly processed and bleached shite in the supermarket.

Popped down to a couple of butchers in London Rd and the Open Market and then in North Laine area but no luck.

Can you buy old fashioned lard anymore or do I need to buy and slaughter a pig myself?

Just buy a free range chicken. Roast it in a large pyrex. Pour off the juices and let them set in a bowl in the fridge. The white fat at the top is better than lard, and the jelly underneath is good in soups (for yourself).

I member fried breakfasts cooked in lard as a kid, delicious.
I got a cub scout badge by going round Arkela's house and frying her an egg in her pan of lard.

And none of that, absolutely none, is a euphemism.

Not many butchers will have the equipment or bother to render down pork fat, but all you need is a pan.
Just ask for the fat, if you're on speaking terms with a butcher they'll just keep a tub to one side and fill it up for you as they trim and prepare other orders.

Thanks yes I think I'll need to buy my own fat then. Might try the fat from overnight slow cooking an unseasoned chicken in the Crockpot, as suggested by HWT.
