I seem to recall back in the day (at the Goldstone) that the PA would stop at about 10 minutes before kick off and the fans would take over. That was back before all the staged walking out together and shaking hands business.
I’ve never really understood why we need the PA to be at full volume until the ref blows his whistle. It means the fans don’t really get to warm up and the game often starts with silence from the North Stand.

Oh, and as the team walks out is the correct answer to the poll question.
There have been quite a few times when there is no PA in the buildup to kick-off, by accident or design. Sadly, the stadium has not suddenly transformed into a terrifying cauldron of noise when it's happened.

As for people moaning about us emulating Arsenal, I think it's irrelevant. It's not a contrived attempt to get fans singing - SBTS is genuinely our anthem and has been for decades. It's just a case of when the most people are going to sing it, to maximum effect. In the otherwise, generally quiet gap between the PL music and kick-off is not a bad idea. At best, we get a few choruses of the Al-beeeee----uhhhnnn dirge at that point when the crowd is left to its own devices.

But this isn't actually true is it? Everton play their Z cars theme as the players walk out of the tunnel (or did 4 years ago; I couldn't find a more recent rendition)

And here are Liverpool walking out to YNWA in 2021

And finally (coz I cba to look up any more) here are West Ham walking out to Blowing Bubbles in 2022!

If it ain't broke, stop trying to mend it.

Sussex by the sea to walk out to may not be broke, but the pre match stuff is, and it's currently not enhancing the atmosphere at all.

Last night it was timed to perfection, but I can see timings going wrong and the music cut short if the ref blows to start. On that basis, as they walk out for me

"As ever, many people have different views. Our job is to maximise the atmosphere pre-match - it appears to be better with GOSBTS in its new place - and also support the players to get off to the best start in matches (and their preference is to play GOSBTS where it now is)."

I agree with him….and if the timings are slightly out it doesn’t matter.

Settled then. The players want it there so let's all get behind it now.

I was very anti the move, but maybe its just change. The older you get the harder change is. If it's to continue as well as the comments about no words, we also don't need to be announcing that we are about to sing it. Feels less organic.

I didn't notice for the Ipswich game as I was busy getting a beer to take to my armchair & some slow moving bodies of water don't show build up anyway. Saw some of the build up last night, on a different armchair in front of my Now TV box so it was on Sky Sports+. I liked it, it stopped at the right time & everyone kept singing as usual,

Keep the words on the screens as I have a memory worse than a goldfish & there were a lot of kids there yesterday who wouldn't know the words unless they'd had to learn the song as if they were doing a school play. Kids want to sing along & they're the future of the club, just because it's been sung for decades they're not going to know it. Did I mention I have a memory worse than a goldfish?

Perhaps for the walk out song, instead of RHRN, we could have another FBS tune that no one else is going to use. Added bonus that people can clap along & annoy a few more of our supporters! 😁

Just saying with this one.... ;)

Strange how different we all are. It annoyed me yesterday that the ref blew for the start of the game and the song hadn't finished. I was also annoyed at Steele gifting that last gasp goal (but he played well before that). Maybe I was just annoyed yesterday

To be fair, the Steele goal was VERY annoying. :ROFLMAO:
