I like some Smiths songs but have always found Morrisey to an insufferable bellend.

Agreed. Saw them at Reading Uni in Feb 84. Audience were strangely hostile (spitting, throwing water, verbals). Marr played much of the gig facing away from the audience, and Morrissey walked off before the encore finished. Weird evening.Nothing can match the original line up. Brighton Poly 1984
I missed all that and we were at the front at Brighton Poly. An adoring audience.
In fact at dozens of 80’s gigs we never saw any trouble or spitting. I just missed out on the peak punk thing as too young. A relative of Mrs.W worked at the Top Rank for decades, he could remember all the violent gigs.

Easily overcome, Morrissey tours as Morrissey's Smiths, while Johnny Marr tours as The Smiths.
I'm sure some venues will advertise Morrissey's Smiths dates as The Smiths, causing confusing and leading to further litigation.
Alternatively they could follow the Oasis route and reform as The Smiths for a few stadium appearances to boost their pension pot.

I'm guessing Marr is simply making sure Steven doesn't tarnish the Smiths legacy any more than he already has.

Astley at glasto was awesome as a one off but I'm not sure I could stand to hear a full set without Mozza on vocals.

I started to pick my gigs carefully after around 79 (after the nonsense at the Specials, Madness etc.). Then in 82 I moved to Vancouver where there was never any trouble at gigs (Big Country, Chris and Cosey, Legendary pink dots). Didn't see any live music in the UK again till around 92 and have largely stayed well away from mainstream ever since. And Also The Trees (numerous times), Tuxedomoon, VNVNation (loads of times), Assemblage 23 (loads), De/Vision, Lebananon Hanover, and more recently SRSQ, Boy Harsher, Drab Majesty . . . . absolutely no chance of wanktrumpeteers.
The only irksome recent-ish gig was Godspeed!YBE at Brixton 10 years ago, which was very crowded, and a group of trustafarians arrived late and stood right in front of us, in loud conversation, triggering a 'strong' reaction from five foot three Mrs T, who provided a brief but succinct elaboration of her opinion. They moved. But it dampened the mood.
What did you think Big Country? We saw their Crossing gig at the Top Rank in 83. Great night.

I suspect rather than roping in Olly Murs on lead vocals and touring as The Smiths, it's a preventative measure designed to stop Morrissey calling Craig Gannon, Vini Reilly (is he still alive?), Stephen Street, and Andrew Paresi and going out on the road using the name.

Johnny Marr is a great musician and has made some great records but he is a narcissistic prick.
Saw him last year and he told the venue to shut the bar during his performance. If it had been a seated gig I could possibly understand it but it wasn't. Sadly the venue didn't tell him to f*** off so it was a pretty much dry gig.

He is right up himself, some very good guitar, but not spectacular and a good session musician can easily replicate.
He hates to acknowledge Morrissey was the driving force and face of the smiths.
