NATO could do a Putin, and do the opposite of what they are expected to do. But if we announce it, it firms up and becomes official, and Putin could use it for his faux outrage.

It is possible that just the prospect of western missiles hitting Russia, but not actually pulling the lever, may act as a sufficient deterrent. OK, it's unlikely, but it might be worth a pop. A bit like the Kerch bridge maybe. The prospect of the bridge being destroyed may be of more value than actually destroying it.

That’s a good point - why let Putin know what the West has decided? Let him sweat and find out if / when it happens.

BBC Ukraine correspondent just now, asked if this attack by a Ukrainian drone, is a statement of intent by Ukraine, making it clear it will go it alone, without the use of western missiles deep inside Russia.

Surprising what a bit of debris can do!! Expected them to say it was all to do with a carelessly discarded cigarette & only minor damage, oh & there is a fireworks display going on, hence the bangs. An excellent result if all that ammo has really been destroyed & even better news if it was caused by a Ukrainian produced missile.

Yes indeed...as usual, Russia shot down ALL of the Ukrainian drones in that attack, and it was just a small debris spark that set a bush alight... nothing to see here.

Drone also varying in size/scope from the big long range deep strike to smaller more simple variants.
