in 1907 it wasn't implied to be a song containing homosexual reference, Merely to be jolly.
Unfortunetly the song hasn't aged well.
I think it has aged very well. It will be played at my funeral.

I think it's very easy to sing the word 'gay' and understand that you are calling on folk to be happy of heart and not commanding them to take it up to the elbow. It's also easy not be embarrassed by the word 'gay' in the modern world. It's a sign of maturity.

Indeed.

Some stupid comments on this thread (especially the ones criticising GOSBTS).

These are excellent examples of ice lollies, from Australia, I imagine our eleven fingered suffolkers wouldn’t get this either.

True.

But I think putting the words up on the big screen makes us look like numpties. We don't need the words up now, we know the song
There is truth in that. It's not a school assembly. We can sing our own song !

A good question for the fans forum.

Actually, most people DON'T know the words. As I've mentioned before, the VAST majority sing "Good old Sussex by the sea" instead of "Oh Sussex, Sussex by the sea".

There are also a few "Going up to win the cup" types, too...

Yes we do need the words on screen. I want to sing and can't remember the words from one match to the next. Does that make me a numpty, neurodiverse or just have a shit memory for a lyric. Either way, well done you if you don't need a lyric on screen. Honestly, why raise this issue again and risk excluding people who need it.

I sing 'Good old Sussex by the sea' whatever the words say on the screen, because that's how I learned the song at football. It's too late to change me now.
