They very rarely drop in price. Today the 15 is still circa £699 sim free.
Im sitting here needing a new iphone and cant decide between the 15 or the 16 so been watching closely over last few weeks see if they drop. If anyone knows of any cracking deals please shout !

Yeah, but I'm guessing the 15 wasn't £699 on launch day.
With cameras, for example, a high price is really firm for a few months, and then drops off slowly (when supply matches demand, presumably) and then sharply when a new model is announced.

Sorry I mis understood. The 15 launched at £799 and googling appears it didnt drop until about March of this year. This is Apple after all !
Apple don't lower the prices of their phones at all until the next version appears.
The lowest storage version of the iPhone 15 was £799 on release last September. With the announcement of hte 16, they've dropped prices by £100 - this is what they've done with prior releases.
We tend to buy refurbed phones now. I'm still using an iPhone 12 Pro Max which is more than adequate, and the best iPhone in the house is an iPhone 13 Pro.
Both GiffGaff and ur.co.uk are good for refurb phones. If you don't like what gets sent to you, either in terms of phyical condition and/or battery health, you can just send it back and get a refund.

At the point that my iPhone stops receiving updates I upgrade it. I tend to pay the Apple price for replacing the battery about 3-4 years in, which then carries me through the subsequent few years. This is the most cost-effective way to stick with Apple.
Replacing the battery seems to give the phone a new lease of life. I’m guessing whatever magic they employ to throttle performance so the phone doesn’t exceed the max power draw possible feom the battery also gets reset when the battery is replaced.

Many thanks for this. I already have a 3 year old iPhone 12 that really struggles. Plus the charging port is gone and I can only use wireless charging to charge it.
I guess I just need to see if I can justify the extra £100 or go for a 15 brand new as the refurbs for that model are not much cheaper.
The announcement of the 16 was only yesterday - I'd give it a few weeks until those new phones start landing in hands.
I'd expect the price of refurb models to fall when that happens.

Also, take the existing iPhone into your nearest Apple Store and ask if they’ll just take a look. I’ve had that happen with the charge port twice in my life, and they have a long soft-bristle brush that can magically extract pocket fluff and miscellaneous gubbins from the charge port.
I haven’t been charged on either occasion, despite being out of warranty.

Funny you should mention that but have just sat on a boring Zoom meeting with a tooth pick in the charging port and was quite surprised what came out !
It now charges !!!!
