To be clear though, that's not the truth. They didn't ask, they just announced on Tuesday it was cancelled. They didn't ask for help, they just announced it was cancelled. It's very strange and not something I've ever seen before from any other parkruns. There was no appetite to get the parkrun on - presumably every single person from the core team is away but was there really no time to arrange for someone who understands how to process the results to be Run Director and pack the roster with ad-hoc volunteers? They just decided to cancel it. Very, very strange.
Probably something you should take up with the PR team directly. I was just passing on the message and trying to save people a wasted journey. I wasn’t looking for my integrity to be challenged.

I literally have no idea why you took that personally when it obviously wasn't written to be.

Please forgive the lengthy post….As some of you know, I am pretty close with members of the Hove Park core committee.
I can confirm that the event has been cancelled as only two committee members are available this week and in their view this is not enough to hold a safe and enjoyable event. The number of volunteers is not the issue tomorrow.
So let’s bear in mind the following:
1) it’s the first time in around 800 runs they have had to cancel - most other parkruns get the odd day off due to Pride, Brighton Marathon, funfairs, bad weather and other events.
2) There are four other parkruns in B&H available plus Lancing, Worthing, Lewes etc
3) the core committee members, several of whom don’t even run, spend time every week organising parkrun, managing social media, organising volunteers, setting up, running the event, packing away, processing results, dealing with any issues, answering emails from people who’s time is two seconds out etc etc - just out of sheer goodwill.
4) it’s bank holiday and many people are on holiday.
5) Hove Park parkrun does continually struggle for volunteers - especially in school hols as they lose the Duke of Edinburgh cohort. There are people who’ve run there hundreds of times without volunteering!!!!! So hopefully everyone commenting on here does their fair share of volunteering and if you’d like to become a member of the core team I’m sure they’d welcome your help.

So (and I hope this doesn’t sound too touchy) let’s all appreciate what a brilliant and selfless job they have done for the last 13 years and respect their right to make the correct decision😃

You do acknowledge it is strange how it was announced though? Straight cancellation, no request for help just it's cancelled. Of course there is no question it's incredibly selfless of them for years and years to give up their time for the running community, there is nothing but respect and admiration for them. But if they're short of core members, why not ask if anyone wants to step up? It feels very much like a clique and a closed shop, which is also strange.

Had a good summer fitting in cross training and track running. Attending 6 track events without injury. My 4 year constant calf seizing appears to have gone. 🙏
Also did the Brighton Tri on Sunday. 4 days prior my mate and rival dating back to Hove Grammar 1971 bought a super duper carbon bike. Foolishly I chased him too hard on the bike. His 8 minute lead was stilldefinitely catchable. I got of the bike but for the first time could not run. I walked and jogged to a PW 10k of about 75 minutes.wow It was very hot.
Well done to the hairy bloke with atrial fibrillation. I'm aiming to get you next year.
65-69 age group podium finish. (3 competitors). IMG_20240901_161131643_HDR~2.jpg

Quick question for the running brains.

I'm training for the Bournemouth Half in October. Having recently moved to a hilly area, I've struggled to find flat routes to train on. Subsequently, my times have come down a bit. Makes sense given some of the hills are pretty sharp.

The question is, once I get onto the flat of Bournemouth, will my times improve again or am I screwed by running on hills (on roads)?

Hills are generally recommended to make you a stronger runner, so try and take that as a positive. Strava and Garmin both give a Grade Adjusted Pace (GAP) which should reflect the pace as if you’d run on the flat, so check that out and compare to your old times and hopefully it’ll actually show an improvement. If using a phone Garmin is better, turn on its side to see more stats in the lap view.

Some people complain that courses can be too flat and prefer some undulation to provide different simulation. I can’t say that’s something I’ve experienced myself (yet).

Just posted a 1:39:40 at the Surrey Half. This one was a real mental challenge as my thigh tightened up between miles 5 and 6 meaning I spent the rest of the race trying to ignore it and think loose thoughts.

After ten years and 5,000 miles my Vision Ftness TF20 has died. It's been behaving strangely for a few weeks and now reports a software error message. The console and motor have already been replaced, and rather than replacing the processor board and hoping for the best I've decided to go for a new machine.

I'm looking for a sturdy home machine and the Horizon 7.4 AT seems to fit the bill. Does anyone have experience of this or similar?
