Not at Brighton he wasn't. Taylor was the main man.
Bankrupt. Out of business (and the league) sooner than we nearly were. The man was a complete disaster at The Albion (on the rare occasions he was actually anywhere near). Leeds did us a bigger favour than Celtic did when buying Adam Virgo!

But according to legend Mike Bamber had a few quid behind him.
Forest and Derby were out of our league on the quality of players they could attract. Bamber did the best he could, but it was always on a wing and a prayer.
Frustrated as a perfectionist, Clough would’ve openly humiliated more players in the way he did to Powney, and then left anyway.

There is no doubting his footballing brain, but he was a loose cannon and, unlike the myth, for me a lot of the time he just spouted nonsensical rubbish. Box office rubbish, granted. I don't believe he would have done any better than Mullery, or as well as Mullery, with what we had.

I went to his book signing in Churchill Square years back and had him sign a copy for me so I obviously liked the bloke but he definitely thought he was much more important than us.
Some of us have a pretty good idea!
At the time Bamber and Wickenden were considered the richest people in English football. The truth may be different.

He wasn't pretending to manage Brighton then. It was good riddance when he buggered off; the best thing he ever did for the Albion (that, and a bit of publicity when he joined).
Everton owners the Moore’s family (Littlewood) were billionaires in today’s terms.

Indeed, but he also spent a lot of money bringing top players in. It's all relative. Nottingham Forest are not a team you would expect to break the transfer record. He was shown the door at Derby because he thought he could go around spending money like he was throwing confetti.
As I say, very good tactician. But could you imagine Tony bringing in his equal ?
Wickenden was super rich. Comfortably a billionaire in today's terms

When he came in he got rid of a lot of the old players who weren't good enough anymore. He was ruthless as he had no loyalty to them, the club was too nice to remove them, it was the right start. I was told this by one of the players he removed!!

Clough is an enigma in the game. He’s both a legend and a mythical creature. Was he a great manager or a tyrant? Was he a tactical genius or did he just find and stand next to someone who was? Was he driven by a passion for the game or a hatred of everything it did to him?
Such imbalances tell me I’d rather watch him from afar rather than up close.
