Gods country fortnightly
I’ve just spoken to a Gooner.

Told him that Rice didn’t have a leg to stand on.

And after Veltman kicked him, he nearly didn’t, literally.

No sense of humour, these big 6 fans.
Arsenal def big 6 (not big 4) these days now Spurs have a bigger stadium than them.....

Best deluded opinion from an Arse fan is that "they" don't want Arsenal to win the league so have an agenda against them. Apparently they'll be getting decisions against them all season. (Who "they" are and why they don't want Arsenal to win the league wasn't specified.)

Well my take on the whole thing is this.

1. Pedro should have been booked based on the briefings given at the start of the season.
2. Hinshelwood should have been booked for pulling the shirt however, if neither ref nor linesman saw it then he got away with one.
3. Arteta should be regularly booked for being outside his technical area.
4. Rice got what he deserved. Both yellows were correct.
5. Veltman played the system, just as White tried to do last year against Estupian and just as every footballer who stays down when not injured does.

The problem is the lack of consistency from the refs (no surprise there). They briefed about booking players that delay free kicks but in most cases don't enforce it evidenced by the fact that pretty much every free kick you will see someone moving to stand in front of the ball. I'd love to see players booked everytime they grab a shirt because if that happened, it would soon stop.

I go to watch 90 minutes of football but we are deprived of that by the shenanigans of players and manipulating the system. Time wasting is bookable offence but rarely happens until the last few minutes. Technical fouls, Man City being the master, stifle the game and fake injuries merely to break up play. In my view, refs should always call on a physio if they reached a point where they stop the game. That way the player is required to go off for at least 30 seconds.

Feigning injury is becoming out of control now. A Wolves player went down as if they were seriously injured in the last few minutes of the Forest match just as Forest had a corner, even the Forest players were concerned and calling on the physio, looked like he must have done his ACL or something just as bad. Game stopped, momentum lost, job done; same player is then spriniting on 90 seconds later. The ref should be able to show a card. It is just cheating.

If it were up to me after a player receives treatment which causes a stop in the game, for an 'injury' not caused by a foul, then I'd make it 5 minutes off the pitch, or the team can make an immediate sub.

Referees must caution players who delay the restart of play by:
  • appearing to take a throw-in but suddenly leaving it to a team-mate to take
  • delaying leaving the field of play when being substituted
  • excessively delaying a restart
  • kicking or carrying the ball away, or provoking a confrontation by deliberately touching the ball after the referee has stopped play
  • taking a free kick from the wrong position to force a retake
My view - Pedro did not delay the restart of play by kicking the ball away as the multi ball is being used so there was no delay in the restart of play - had the ball ended back on the pitch then yes a yellow card would have been correct as that would delay the restart

Good point re the multi-ball system and Pedro.

I think my point is the entitlement of them, I was queueing or the tube after the game, chatting with a few Arsenal fans. all agreed in the circumstances a draw was a fair result on the day, and that the red card changed the game in our favour; however, their attitude that as a smaller team we shouldn't dare come to their home and compete as they have "bigger fish to fry" than us - I explained that whilst it is only 3 games in, we are where we are on merit, and maybe underestimating us wasn't the smartest idea, especially given that their dropped points against the likes of West Ham and Fulham last year contributed to them losing the title. The answer to that was that "Brighton aren't going to win anything so what's the point" to which I said we won the same number of trophies as them last season....
On the last two occasions I’ve queued for that tube, firstly the cup match, some Brighton fan was that pissed he got over excited about the fact he’d managed to nick an onion from outside a local shop and last season some of our younger element tried to antagonise the Arsenal fans by singing about Man City.
On reflection my experiences weren’t as bad as yours!

He DID kick it back on the pitch, though?

I don't give a monkey's if it was a red, or a yellow, or neither, or even both. The game is done. Suck it up.
History will show we drew with them and obvs stopped Arsehole winning the 24/25 Premier League.

I am just really really really enjoying that this is making their bell-end fans really really really cry. They'd barely manage to cry harder if we'd won that game.
(McDonald's whistle) I'm loving it.

After 10 hours of messages on Sunday, my Arsenal-supporting mate started again today. Arsenal Reddit links, new camera angles, Twitter conspiracies. Not sure how many times I need to send him a screenshot and link to the laws of the game, not to mention Rice's mea culpa.

Apparently, the refs have had it in for them since they first fielded a non-English 11.

I've not seen as a proper replay of where the ball went exactly either side of the touchline but my recollection from being at the game was it rapidly went down the pitch and off the bottom, whether it crossed the touchline maybe, maybe not but it was hit with force so wouldn't have delayed the restart as it wasn't on the pitch when a player picked up a multi-ball

Also, I don't think it was after the referee had stopped play

Also I'm annoyed as everyone keeps saying "Rice got a red card for kicking the ball away"; he didn't. He got a yellow card, which was deserved.
I agree. The number of so-called experts spouting on about Rice getting a red card for kicking the ball away seem to conveniently forget about the second yellow. The vast number of Arsenal fans seem to have ignored that as well. Oh dear, let’s start the season again shall we? Just to right the wrongs make sure that Arsenal retain the six points from their first two games, the result against Brighton will be expunged and the game awarded to Arsenal by way of a 3-0 win. The referee in the centre of the Rice controversy will now face charges of high treason which carries the death penalty for those found guilty. :bigwave:

Agree with a lot of what you say but 5 minutes is probably the proverbial sledgehammer. Fact is referees are not medics therefore they don't really have the expertise to assess an injury so if they stop play, so even before the ref has got to the player to ask him, they should wave on the physios immediately. I'm pretty sure that would eliminate the problem but if not, then maybe revert to the 5 minutes!!
