The armed forces have done a lot of study into hormone therapy treatments and the impact of gender reassignment and surgey on muscle loss and gain. Their studies show and equalling out, but only after a period of 3-4 years.

Studies are inconclusive on time ranges, but it shows that there is an equalling relating to cisgender people.

The question is whether men and women should have the right to have biological categories. That then begs the question of what is a man and what is a woman?

If someone is painfully born into the wrong body, are you going to deny them the right to identify as the correct gender if they are prepared to undergo all the surgery required to reassign.

Also, in society in general - not sport and this thread aside - who cares if someone is a he, she, they, them, cis, bi, gay, trans? At some point in the future, I hope none of us give a toss what label we choose to use.

Does an average size male goalkeeper become an average size female goalkeeper after taking hormone therapy?

The question about whether men and women should have separate biological categories is easy. Answer either yes, keep things separate because women aren't as strong as men; or no, abolish the whole principle of women's sport. The answer is obviously yes (one would hope). A mishmash where men can choose either category is pointless.

Thats actually not very fair and I am the first to mock the knucle draggers when given a chance. But some of these people have children that are daughters. Why should they be disadvantaged?

Its a really tricky one but my feeling is a third league is the only fair outcome and given they way these types of events have accelerated in the last few years it won't be too long till its a possibility.

Possibly so, but the majority of the dialogue isn’t about facts or coming to any real compromise for the best of all parties (as you’ve attempted, as an adult, to do so)

Just real hate of something different.

Could you point me in the direction of any hate on here? I fully support Trans rights. But I also support women in their right for fairness. As I stated earlier - this is not about hate - it's about fairness.

It came up on my feed this morning, and many on here know boxing is also another sport I love and what went on in Paris was not only farcical but relevant to this subject.

Aside from their brief dalliance with the EFL, Sutton United are one of the most respected non league football clubs in the country, so for this issue to arrive at their door, it clearly will have people talking about (if we’re allowed to 🤷‍♂️)

If you’re not anti-trans then the comment didn’t apply to you did it? Unfortunately this place (and the internet in general) is full of this type of hypocrisy and hate and it deserves to be called out.

detail lost in the usual back and forth that it was the Sutton players that didnt want to turn out with the goalkeeper, so they couldn't field a team. a lot of people seem to want to overlook that a large group of women object to transgenderism. they often get called names, forced out of communities or jobs for that view. it's not just an issue drummed up by the Mail and some male right wing warriors.

We don't, a 6' male is playing in goal for Sutton United.

By comparison, England goal keeper, Mary Earps, is 5' 8", and Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper, Sophie Baggaley, is 5'6".

Yep. If you have an unfair advantage if you are biologically male (the 'beneficiary' of the testosterone burst during puberty) then it isn't fair to be allowed to compete with women. End of discussion.

Unfortunately some folk may be better versed in civil rights than in biology, advocating for impractical equality. But.....apart from the footballer herself, is there really a 'lobby' promoting the idea that trans women should be afforded all the sporting rights available to biological women? One with impact and traction?

Nah. There isn't. This this a silly thread and the OP really needs to give this sort of thing a rest.

Of course there will be some people out there accusing folk of being transphobic for not backing the goalie. Just as there were people out there accusing The Albion of racism when we sacked Chris Hughton.

Such opinions don't matter, and one reacts 'noisily' to them only if one has an axe to grind oneself (that axe being transphobia and racism, respectively; "look at 'those' people, playing the gender/race card").
