Came across an old Sunday Mirror from 1965 earlier today whilst clearing out some cupboards.

Had this match report in it!
We were 4th in div 4 at the time.
My how times change!

Southport replaced by Wigan Athletic eventually after years finishing bottom or near the bottom of the old fourth division.
Back when you were voted in or out if you finished bottom

The first club I remember being de-elected were Workington in 77, replaced by Wimbledon.

Bottom - or near bottom. Southport weren't even bottom when they were voted out - they were 23rd. Obviously, the other teams preferred 24th. place Rochdale to posh suburban Southport!
