Out of interest is that dive of a pub The White Hart still going? I worked in creepy for 13 years and had the misfortune of having to visit it many times.
Ahhh, the White Hart. That was the scene of one of my jury service escapades a few years back, when a young Crawley Town FC footballer was in the dock charged with affray after it all kicked off in the pub, and then spilled out onto the street outside in a mass brawl, all caught on CCTV.

Lots of windmills and posturing by some absolute THROBBERS, as you'd expect. We actually acquitted him though, being as he wasn't the instigator, was highly contrite, and just appeared to get caught up in it. He was not the aggressor (one of the blokes who was, in a seperate trial, got 2 years IIRC).

Anyway, it comes to something when you look across the street to the Wetherspoons and think "mmm...maybe there instead"

You can tell he’s lost his head because he’s struggling to differentiate between the space bar, comma and full stop. Do you even have any public transport to your ground or is it just a black hole of humanity?
Driving home from the game on Tuesday we passed a Crawley Fastway bus heading off the A27 towards Village Way. I know Crawley are League 1 but I thought even Crawley would have a more luxurious form of transport to take their team home? Maybe they’ll hire one of Gatwick long stay car park buses next time ?

for the un-initiated as I need to go there fairly soon, are there any good pubs in Crawley?

Loosen your belt a notch and have a nice lie down. After what we witnessed last night it should be very obvious to you why some posts have this tone, especially with the vacuous contributions from your fellow townsfolk. FWIW, my wife grew up in Crawley and I still think she’s a cracker despite us both being in our late 60s. Er, mind you, I’ve had a few sherries.
I can't lie down, had all my furniture stolen, a common occurrence in Crawley, apparently.

Don’t worry, I live in Lancing, the town that banned mirrors.

😉

And we don’t even have pubs for people to fight outside..
Not aimed at you particularly but I have always been uncomfortable with the shit that Crawley (the town, not the club) gets on here.

Do we really need to be hammering Sussex towns and cities in the way that happens on NSC? Crawley gets an unfair rap on here at the best of times and it's not on at all when you consider BHA are FAR more.popular there than CPFC. People like @spence and @Baldseagull shouldn't be expected to put up with ignorant shit towards their home town any more than anybody else.

I know of far worse places in the county than Crawley tbh, but what value is there in slagging off these places on here? It is just unkind.

I've even seen a mod involved in this. The same mod who likes to act all high and mighty, telling people to stop with some fairly trivial stuff and threatening them with thread bans.

Old Punchbowl, Swan, The Railway? All much of a muchness.

Goffs Manor is more of a bistro pub but is located in Goffs Park which is actually nice, about a 15 min walk from the town centre though.

I don’t share your concern. Banter innit. But probably not nice for the people that live there.

Having said that. I live in Lancing, the spiritual home of the mobility scooter and universal credit wrist support. It has its nice points but is a bit of a dump.

I don’t care if people rip the piss. It’s just a place.

As someone that hasn't been to Lancing since the 80s when my mum took me and my sister to the beach on the one day if summer we got which, if memory serves, was about as far as a beach could get from Bondi. I'm very much intrigued on the "banning of mirrors" story.

Had someone watched too many horror films?

Just a village full of incredibly ugly people.
Judging by your avatar your not wrong.
;)

Lancing is an odd place, there seems a disproportionate amount of scaffolders, builders, floorlayers, hard men and ex football hooligans.

Swerve the Rainbow on a Friday morning.

In fact, swerve it altogether.

Lancing has its nice areas.

Lancing College, lancing Ring, the beach between beach green and Shoreham.

North lancing, the church and chocolate box cottages are lovely.

It’s the village centre that looks like someone air-dropped a shipping container full of mutants.

But it’s easy to get dental and GP appointments. Library is always dead quiet. And rail station is well kept.

I worked in Crawley for a few weekends. homophobic idiots throwing bottles at customers leaving Bar7 and the same bitter, failed at life, scrag-ends fighting outside metro cabs and Troy’s kebabs at kicking out time, week in week out.
Their girlfriends yelling “Riley, he ain’t worf it babe” with mascara running down their fake tanned cheeks.

Not one fit bird in the whole town. All of them look like 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag.

Oh and the lovely Mauritian gangs and homeless drunks by Betfred.

Absolute toilet.
To be fair and sadly you have pretty much described any typical town high street on a Saturday night, the Rileys, The Bayleys and the Freddie’s are not not Crawley exclusives

Blimey, it's become gentrified! I grew up in Lancing (1966 to 1990) and whilst it didn't happen every week there were often fights in/outside the pubs: Farmers, Merry Monk, Britannia, Crabtree and Balltree (Sompting) being the main offenders. Usually not big ones, often just a couple of blokes having a straightener, but it happened enough for me growing up to think that fighting in pubs was quite normal.

It's only when I moved to Brighton that I realised it wasn't!

I think the issue with the night time economy in places like Crawley is that it’s not a destination town. You’re only going out there if you live there. So the same people fight and argue and play out grudges each weekend.

I was mostly teasing that dullard @Red Side Of Sussex . No point banning him because he won't be back unless his team of thugs play us again.

If people choose to live in Crawley that's their lookout. I notice you don't. I worked there for a few years and found it soulless, identikit, full of teenage mums and frequently violent. Maybe I was only seeing the good parts. ( :moo: ).

The mod, by the way, manages to take almost constant teasing about Portslade in reasonable, self deprecating humour. I'm fully aware of its shortcomings and I still love it. I guess the same is true for our Crawley dwelling BHA fans?

When my daughter finished uni, she was offered accountancy training with Deloitte, which meant commuting. She rented in Maidenbower for six months, which was full of identikit new houses, but then bought a house in Pound Hill, which they did up.
Both decent areas imo.
