Yeah. And I'd I'd like to be able to slap my students like in the good old days.

Obviously two grown men having a punch up in the context of a physical game is directly comparable to a teacher belting a minor who’s under his authority.

Stop being soft.

The main thing that disappoints me about this education programme for referees with the MLS is that we don't get to vote on one to go over there as a swap deal.

Who (of the current crop) would you pick? Hoops? Salisbury? Stuey "COYS "Attwell?

I don't teach minors. All my students are adults.

What makes you think that physical assault in the workplace is acceptable on a football pitch but not in a lecture theatre or teaching laboratory?

Hoops.

And it's a shame the Titanic is no longer operating.

Mike Dean was ahead of his time. He'd have loved to have performed some over exaggerated arm movements in the States.

If WBG goes, we are fairly desperate in central mid. Unless we are happy with a lower midtable midfield.
Baleba looks like he is a better fit for Fabi's system than de Zerbi's. Fabi is happy for him to gallop forward smashing aside anyone in his path, whereas Roberto wanted him playing on the half turn and laying the ball off immediately. From what I saw last night he is at his best facing forward, dribbling and passing.

He'd have LOVED the black and white striped umpires' jerseys too.

Anybody seen anything about Williams' retrospective punishment? Surely he can't just get away with it!
Of course he will. Bad fouls happen sometimes, if the ref sees it and decides it merits a yellow card or no card, then it's just one of those things. Gilmour got away with one against Forest last season didn't he? I think it was WBG. Only got a yellow when it could and should have been a red. If the Crawley bloke had punched O'Riley (ie violent conduct) and the ref missed it, that might be different, but a foul is "just" a foul...no chance of further punishment.

I say we move on, keep our fingers crossed that O'Riley isn't badly hurt, and leave that no-mark non-leaguer to what remains of his career with Crawley Town, which I'm sure is absolutely the football career he dreamed of when he was a boy.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.... 😯

Gets worse every time you see it. In footballers terms, the ball was long gone.

A standard straight red.

But as it stands the English refs are on a mission not to hand out cards because they think a lot of cards indicates they've lost control of a game, which is something I don't agree with. Right now the yellow card carries so much value that you can break someones leg within the first ten minutes and get away with it because of unwritten laws that a yellow card is too impactful to be given in the first ten minutes.

This fear of cards also means that you can do all sort of shithousery if you're on a yellow because an English ref is never ever going to contemplate a second yellow unless someone has been murdered.
You're wrong, simple as that.

Because a punch up is two blokes going toe to toe. It’s not like one of them has attacked the other when tempers boil over and they both go at it. Part of the game in physical sport.

That was absolutely a straight red card.

Really poor refereeing. Same as the failure to send off Liverpool's Fabinho for going straight through the back of Ferguson in the FA Cup in January last year.

If a red card had been properly awarded, we'd have totally eviscerated that mob last night. 4-0 would have been just the start.

A different angle of the incident .

Slowing that down, it looks like he luckily didn't connect fully with his leading leg as that might have broken Matt's ankle.

The trailing leg does connect and seems to roll his ankle, not great but hopefully just a sprain.
