I’m not starting questioning the club’s judgement, I’m questioning yours.
Any professional footballer, in fact any footballer shouldn’t go into a match fearing ankle breakers. I suspect there are plenty of League One clubs that would not have approached the game like that. Grimsby is a great comparison.

Yes, Williams challenge was unacceptable and should probably have been a red. But outside of that, until the sending off, then the game was very physical but nothing unusual. Most of the fouls that Fab has angry at was pull backs, shirt pulls etc. This wasn’t a team full of Chopper Harris types (Williams aside).
I’d expect any of our players - if fit - to be able to play in that game. And at 2-0 down, and with Crawley creating chances, we could have done with that third goal.
I think that after the event people are starting to create a version of the truth in their heads that is far from accurate. That was a physical game, but we’re dancing up and down and screaming for a policeman (to use a phrase.)

If you can recognise it was a physical game, yet cant see why we wouldn't risk bringing on a young player just back from injury I have no other option than to surmise that you might be a bit dim

if we didnt have to waste a sub replacing Oriley after 8 mins then i am sure Ferguson would have come on.
And looking at the game after that tackle I am not suprised he wasnt risked.

Of course we had him on the bench with the intention of playing him.
However, being 3-0 up and with the tackles coming in being on the industrial end of meaty, with a ref that has pretty much lost control and offered no protection, the juice just wasn’t worth the squeeze.

I just think they will be sensible with it. O'Shea /ROI set up and the Albion hierarchy will know they have to have a constructive relationship going forward.
I actually think it will benefit us the Evan getting some minutes on his return from injury. He would have done, i'm sure against Crawley had the O'Reilly injury not forced us to make a different change up front

He hasn't played since April so I wouldn't say we're rushing him back.
For me, the jury is out on the lad. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong and start banging them in. When he was playing I didn't see enough movement in the box, intelligent runs, or hold up play. Then again, he may not have suited the RDZ system.

I think we all agree on that. The injuries, rumour of glandular fever or how he was played are all issues. It seems an eternity since us and particularly Alan Shearer were purring over him. It's going to be a critical time for him with a new manager and our standards so high that we will put players out on loan or ultimately move them on if we're not convinced. I'd love him to come good but the only thing I would also observe is that he doesn't look happy. Let's hope he can mentally and physically push through this sticky patch

He has never looked the same player for us since the injury at Chelsea (which should have been a pen and potentially a red) which short term cost us an FA Cup final and longer term a ~£100m player looking anything but. Whether that was due to injurt, illness, tactics, or perhaps a mix; who knows but we'll find out soon I think.
I REALLY hope that he is now ready. I think that the club must think so otherwise I believe that we would have signed a #9 this summer.

I'm still annoyed by the bellend in front of us at Fulham who - in the front row, very much within earshot of the player - furiously balled Ferguson out for putting a shot off target.

Is this glandular fever rumour pure speculation generated by NSC which has become fact in some people's heads? Based on him looking a bit peaky and glum during his very occasional appearances on the pitch last season? I have my own theories about that, but don't wish to speculate and be guilty of spreading false rumours myself

My personal view is that the foul on him by Fabinho in the Liverpool game was the moment when his meteoric early career progress stalled.
But it's still very very early days for Evan. His next few months has got to be about finding form and fitness and learning what this manager wants him to do. The second half of the season, is when I think he will really kick on
