Hassocks
Bank Holiday weekend and it was 2 home games for Hassocks at the Beacon Ground.

On Saturday we headed straight from the Amex to the FA Vase fixture against Storrington, missing just the first few minutes. The first half was played in monsoon conditions with fans sheltering either in the stand or under the club house roof. By contrast the second half was like a balmy summers day. On the pitch Hassocks we’re too strong for their opposition from the tier below and ran out easy 6-0 winner.

Today it was back to the league and Crawley Down were the visitors in A fourth versus fifth clash. If you turned up late then you missed the best of the action as Hassocks raced in to a 3-0 lead after only 9 minutes with Down seemingly still in bed for the 11am kick off. It settled down after that with only a goal a piece for the remain of the game although CDG had their keeper to thank for several good saves. FT 4-1.

I am pondering about going along to this, or take a wonder down town and throw stones at some mods.
1759 attendance at Lewes v Whitehawk and a big attendance of 1355 at the West Sussex derby Chichester V Bognor. It looks like the current top 9 that may be battling out promotion, early days.

Bank holiday double header today

Originally aimed to go first to Eastbourne United, but I'd completely missed that they seem to be doing up their ground so they're not playing there. Does anyone know when they're due back?!

Anyway had just enough time to high tail it over to Little Common for ground number 40. Made it just in time for kick off

My first ever visit to the town of Bexhill this. What an odd ground. It's right on the edge of town in the Little Common area in north west Bexhill. The ground is part of a large recreation ground with the football pitch fenced off from the rest (but you can 100% watch from outside). Forgot to say this was a SCFL Premier League clash with Lingfield

The ground has 3 separate stands which are all behind one goal...and nothing else!

The clubhouse is shared with the cricket club and isn't bad but a bit bland. NO BOVRIL AGAIN!!!!

Overall it reminds me of Billingshurst but with everything behind one goal instead of on one side. Quite basic for an SCFL Premier ground

Game finished 1-1 in a very scrappy game of limited quality to be honest. Maybe the players hadn't quite woken up yet

Then, via a trip to Bexhill weatherspoons, it was on to the Pilot Field, home of Hastings United for their Isthmian Premier League clash with Folkestone Invicta.

WHAT. A. GROUND.

It's up there with the best that Sussex has to offer for sure, of course dominated by the huge 100 year old main stand, with covered terraces at each end (one of which is much bigger than the other).

Great little clubhouse with various kiosks dotted around.

Cracking little atmosphere as well.

Folkestone won 2-1, scoring early in each half before Hastings got one back with a penalty...they struggled to break down the visitors though.

Anyway, two of my longest trips done and numbers 40 and 41 down. Quite knackered now though

No idea when they will start playing matches at home again but looks as though they are laying a 3G pitch as well as other significant upgrades:-

Lewes beat Whitehawk 2-1 at the Pan today. Played 5 won 5 and top of the league. Great performance coming back from 0 - 1 down at half time. They also won their last 5 games of last season, making it a 10 game winning streak! Happy days.
Thought Lewes were awful in the first half. The game seemed to change when Whitehawk took off Whelpdale whom i thought was their best player. Very decent second half and an excellent sized crowd

I was at the Hastings game today too, but Spoons in Bexhill and then The Pilot Field? You just won East Sussex.

Whitehawk played a high press in the first half and Lewes were just punting everything over the top which was being mopped up by the Hawks defence. As you say, the Rooks worked their way into in the second half, but they seem to lack a proper no9 - there were lots of crosses that cried out for someone prowling in the box.

Good crowd and atmosphere.

Yep, agreed
although the early substitution of Whelpdale did change things and to me seemed odd.
apart from that my first visit to the dripping pan, very pleasant.

Last minute decision to go to Alfold yesterday morning as they faced Storrington.

I’ve already been there this year, but is a lovey set up with a nice pitch and two nice stands. One seated for approximately 100 seats, and then a standard small covered terrace.

Alfold, who are without a win in the league this season led 1-0 at half time before doubling their lead ten minutes into the second half.

What followed, was a crazy half an hour as Storrington quickly pulled the game level, before scoring a further three goals in as many minutes to go from 2-0 down, to 5-2 up.

The game really didn’t have a midfield by the end and Storrington ended up winning 7-3. Probably a very rare occurrence after trailing.

I heard Alford’s manager, ex Albion Simon Funnell was sacked after the game, which is a shame, he seems like a nice bloke.

Off to Loxwood tonight as they host Petersfield in the SCFL Premier.

Whelpdale is just ridiculous at this level. Even at Eastbourne Borough he was by far the best player in the league.
I mentioned previously that when I saw Whitehawk in a pre season friendly I assumed he was a spanish/italian lothario trialist who was simply turning out for them to get fit before getting noticed by a better side. He is a really classy player
