Poorly worded and I see what you're saying, but it isn't as simple as 'he's a better and more mature player', it's the whole sideshow that goes along with a player like that. In that sense we have got better.
Agreed. And to be honest, he wouldn’t get in our team ahead of Mitoma and Minteh anyway so he would be substituting the Chelsea bench for our bench.

I like Sterling as a player and I think he’s been subject to awful treatment by the British media over the years and now his own club, but as incredible as it is, he would just be a very expensive squad player for us.

There’s not a chance we’re genuinely interested anyway.

Very poorly handled by Chelsea, like a number of others. No chance we’d be in for him, can’t think of a less ‘Brighton-like’ signing than an expensive, mid-contract, very high wages older player.

All of this nonsense is going to seriously bite Chelsea on the arse. Financially, with fans, with players, agents, potential players and kids in academies. Great news, hope the scummy club crash and burn.

but if you were Raheem on 300k per week, you surely would only go elsewhere if offered more!, or quite happily sit on the side lines earning money for nothing.
That depends on him and how badly he wants to play first team football . He loves London and is a London boy so a move to Palarse WHU Spurs Fulham Bford on lower wages might be on !

Has he been treated poorly by his club? Not being selected to play doesn't really constitute being treated poorly does it, it is a hazard of the occupation.

Played pre-season. Trained early/well. Then dropped from squad without explanation. After complaining (publicly, admitedly - not a good idea), told he had no future at club. Squad number taken away (!!).

I'd say that's being treated poorly - and all because he's on a high salary (not his fault).

As others have said, hope he sits tight and shows the club up.

Personally I could quite happily live on less than £17M a year! But I'm not a PL highly paid footballer, and there's the rub. If I was thinking with a PL highly paid footballer's hat on, I would say to Chelsea, "I've got a contract, and I'm going to hold you to it."
He can refuse any move if Chelsea try and sell him, and he's under no obligation to accept a lower wage - and if the only place that will match his wages is Saudi he can simply say, no, I don't want to go there. Chelsea's only option appears to be to loan him out, and hope the club he goes to will pay some of his wages to cut their wage bill a bit.
What a mess!

Really? I just thought he was reading out some random text from a listener.
Ah, maybe I misheard then? Either one would be nonsense, I would imagine!

I'm constantly reading/hearing this and I just don't think it's true. I remember years ago when he got some stick in the tabloids for getting a large gun tattoo on his leg but apart from that, where's all this unmerited 'awful treatment' he's been getting for years? I just don't see it.

Personally, I don't like the guy much as he comes across as a bit aloof and isn't naturally engaging. I also think he's a chronically inconsistent and overrated footballer. But I really don't see widespread media criticism of him, except when he turns in another dismal performance. Perhaps the fact he earns £325,000 a week (feels astonishing just typing that) puts him under the spotlight more.

Search Google for "Raheem Sterling flaunts" and then "Raheem Sterling budget" and you'll get an idea.

I suspect Chelsea know exactly what they are doing and will have highly qualified lawyers and accountants that will ensure they are never found to be financially non compliant.

Don’t necessarily need them to crash and burn financially………..it’ll affect them onfield, in recruitment, in attracting players, in managing their (until now) successful academy etc.

"Raheem Sterling flaunts" brings up stuff from 8 years ago and 10 years ago. Apparently he posted a video online of his 'crystal encrusted sink'.

"Raheem Sterling budget" produces a story from 6 and 8 years ago about him being spotted in Primark and flying on EasyJet.

Not the most devastating examples of non-stop media assassination.

There was some analysis done on how the mainstream press report on stories around Sterling vs another white England footballer and it was quite vast in terms of the language used

What do you think that is then ?

Genuine question. It makes no business sense on any level to me at the moment - if they were hoping to asset-strip they’re destroying the value of the club, they have no chance of making a profit for donkey’s years and they aren’t winning anything.

i think they'll be competing at the top end of all comps in 3-5 years. They'll be financially compliant.

A poster said "I think he’s been subject to awful treatment by the British media over the years".

And you said he hadn't.

I'll leave you to do some more research...
