Bobby Smith made his debut for the Albion against Barrow.

Here's the Sunday Mirror's report on the game.

Anyone else on NSC who was there on the day?

No. It was before I moved to Sussex. (My first game was about eighteen months later).

Another anniversary: MOTD got its first airing. Guess what its' viewing audience was (according to Petroc on Radio 3, it's a classical music station, none of this modern crap but I digress)?

I was there full of anticipation. Fancy little old Brighton signing a former England International. Unbelievable! Seeing, shall we say his well built bulk was a shock. But all I can remember is the headed goals which was his stock in trade.

I wasn't there; I think I was having my nappy changed :)

I was certainly there in what turned out to be one of my most memorable seasons supporting the Albion. Equally exciting was the sensational news that we had signed him. Remember queuing outside the old North Road baths after school when somebody came along with the "Evening" Argus headlining the story.

I'd love to see a manager say 'They need their backsides kicking' again.
