[Albion] Juanlu Sanchez instead of Ferdi?

I just don’t understand why the club would sign a player considered by many to be the best, most in-form left back in world football, then loan out our backup left back (while our first choice has been suffering constant injury issues and even now isn’t fit, leaving us with no fit left backs) - then play him in a position where we have three alternatives in Veltman, Lamptey and Hinshelwood.

If you are signing an in-form player for big money, generally what you don’t do is then ask him to change position from where he’s been having huge success and let other players who play in his very position go on loan.

It would be like loaning out Ferguson, then bringing in a player from Europe who played the whole season at striker and scored loads of goals, and playing him in central midfield.

It just makes zero sense.
Except for the fact that the best full back at the club is our current left back. I imagine he'd play right back when Pervis is fit, left back when he's not.

Well Pervis may be our first fullback at the club - a point I actually doubt as he was pretty poor after his return from injury, and given his relatively short time at the club actually represents a huge chunk of his Albion appearances.

But even taking that as true, the whole point is the growth, development and upgrading of the squad on a constant basis. At one time Darren Freeman was probably the best striker at the club, and Paul Watson was definitely the best right back, but we bring in more, better players as the budget and availability of said players allows.

So yes, even if Pervis is our best fullback, best is always relative to the players we have available, and there’s nearly always someone better. If Ferdi came in, then in all likelihood he would become the best left back and the point would be moot.

When I saw the Barco to Sevilla rumour, my mind did jump to Juanlu. The way this summer is going, maybe we'll bring him in alongside Ferdi.

I think Ferdi will be 2nd choice LB behind Pervis.

But he’ll certainly be 1st choice RWB and probably RB. The vast majority of Albion fans commenting on this expected position believe this too. Huge rumours that Lamptey goes when Ferdi comes in.

Ferdi is able to produce MotM performances from 5 different positions. You are trying to put him in a box. The left back box. Actually you are attempting to put him in the left back corner! I’ll say this once.
Only once.

NOBODY PUTS FERDI IN A CORNER!

Hopefully the penny has finally sunk. Ferdi will be brought in to fill holes in the side. It just happens that he’ll be the best right back at the club. He’d be the best left back too if we didn’t have Pervis and weren’t loaning Barco. Hell, he’d be the best attacking midfielder if we hadn’t signed half a dozen of the best prospects in the world football.

Let’s cut this ‘he is only a left back’ nonsense out once and for all.

I never said he was only a left back. I said he’s (hopefully) being signed as first choice left back. Time will tell, but logically he’s being brought in as left back. He can also play right back when needed; but he’s primarily a left back.

You tube clip from the horse's mouth - his preferred position is Right Back

Why this obsession that we must sign him as a LB? We're reasonably well stocked at LB. but we need a RB. This is his favourite position, which is why he wants to come here (even though his agent was doing his best to f*** things up).

Live with it.

Olivier Boscagli from PSV is a Left Centre Back who also plays very well at Left Back.

It would seem that at the end of the transfer window we might be aiming for:

RB - Ferdi Kadioglu, Joel Veltman
LB - Pervis Estupinan, Olivier Boscagli

With Jack Hinshelwood as further cover primarily at RB and CM, but also LB at a pinch if Igor goes anywhere.

If so, Barco's loan to Sevilla might be dependent on Boscagli's arrival, rather than Ferdi's.

Interesting though.

I can't help but feel that if the Ferdi deal doesn't materialize by the end of this week, then knowing the club they will have a Plan B.

I suspect that if Ferdi doesn't sign this week then next week the club may well move on to another target (probably unknown to us) as they are clearly spending money this summer and the need for a right back arguably has been the most pressing requirement of the close season.

I'm confident the club will make a RB signing and as much as I want Fergi to join, I think we're close to seeing the club possibly considering alternatives.

Fergi might be a bit past it.

Is this because Transfermarkt have him down as a Left Back?

They also have Adingra down as a Right Winger due to him playing there a lot last season. We all know that he is better on the Left.

Nope, nothing to do with that - that website is a joke

Here
21-year-old RB from Sevilla. Previously linked and his style is a great match with the club.

Not seen any very recent links so this could just be a creation of my imagination, but... it smells right.

Sending Barco to them could be a sweetener rather than a context-free loan. Mayhaps.
Yes, I like the smell of this one too.....

I don't think we are going to sign Juanlu Sanchez.

But I don't think it would hurt to tell Fabrizio Romano that we are

Interestingly, Juanlu has played as offensive midfielder in Sevilla's first league game against Las Palmas last week and also scored a goal. Would expect him to return to RB when Saul and Sambi Lokonga are back in midfield though.

I like Juanlu but if you're looking for a young cheap Spanish RB I would probably go with Marc Pubill over him. Could be wrong but he just looks like a more complete player with higher upside to me. Probably can't go really wrong with either of them though.

From what I've seen he was the best player of the relegated Almeria side last season. They had some good players but just couldn't put it all together as a team. Was close to join Atalanta (which is a good sign as they usually buy well) for around €20m two weeks ago but then deal fall through (no idea why). Now also some reports Barca is considering him but probably BS as we can't afford anyone. Don't know if he's ready to get regular minutes for you so loan would probably be the best but would be a worthy longterm investment imo.
