[Politics] Protests/rioting in lots of places

I have to give a massive thumbs up to Starmer if he was the one who decided that these ****s should be tried and sentenced so quickly. I had my doubts that threats would work but it seems the very speedily made draconian sentences, along with anti racist fans taking to the streets HAVE concentrated their minds, as the violence has decreased dramatically
They don’t have to be tried, if they plead guilty. It goes straight to sentencing.
Guilty pleas do get a reduction in time served, so that is an incentive.

I was at Hove Crown Court for the second of my predicted 2 week stint of Jury Service, on the day of the anticipated Brighton riots a cvouple of weeks ago.

The court clerk dismissed all the jurors at lunchtime, to ensure we all got home safely before any any trouble started. At the same time warning us that if these protests did go ahead and trouble ensued leading to mass arrests, we would probably be needed to serve a 3rd week, as they would want these people piut through the court and sentenced pdq.

As we all know though, none of this was necessary.

I have just watched Panorama: The riots that shocked the country. It's a 30 minute documentary about the shocking scenes over the last few weeks (especially in Middlesbrough). It's on the BBC Iplayer.

It's presented by Darragh MacIntyre, brother of Donal MacIntyre , who made the documentatry about Combat 18 a few years back.

It's worth a watch

I would imagine he has not actively interfered. He seems a bit of a stickler on protocol.

What he has done that's good is not muddy the waters by sympathizing with the 'genuine concerns' and hurty feelings of the rioter nobbers.

Sometimes just letting due process proceed is sufficient.

10 out of 10, and as far as I’m concerned the bet is still on, as it has been at least 3 times previously when I have offered the same bet to individuals that have posted what they a) understand my name is, or b) who I work for or c) what I do. I won’t offer the bet on what I wear, the stalkers have that in the bin already.

Past performance will indicate there won’t be any challenge………..empty vessels innit.
who gives a f***?

Fully in favour of the swift justice and lengthy sentences being handed down but the bloke who got 2 years inside for “shouting at a police dog” does have a whiff of Speckled Jim about it.
Apparently he was using racist slurs too. Although the sentence does seem a bit OTT. Maybe he has previous.
