Not sure why dropping down to the championship would help in. He has shown he can play at this level but injuries continue to stall his progress. I hope wherever he is this season he can have a good one as he fully deserves it.
Very interesting timing.
If we don’t get Kadıoğlu or another RB, I think we keep Lamptey and sell him in January or he goes on a free next summer. Sadly his injury record means we can’t offer him a long term contract.
But his agent/the club have obviously got this story going today for a reason.
Hopefully, Ferdi is very close.

I can see this one happening. Will be plenty of good clubs interested. When peak he was mustard.
Extend his contract for a year if we can and send on loan for a season. Not sure we would get enough money from a sale right now to make much of a difference, but a loan that might give him good game time and match fitness could give us more confidence the worst of his injuries are behind him, or at least push his sale value up a bit if we decided to sell.

Yep whilst agreeing with much of what you say, Tariq has lost a yard or two of his pace, which was one of his best assets. That said he is about the only conventioanl right back at the club at present.
Yes the likes of Veltman, Hinshelwood, even Solly March (another big injury worry), can play there, but they are very much square pegs in a round hole.
For me, for the present time at least, and until a replacement is brought in, Tariq remains very much a part of the 1st team squad.

Say it aint so! Love the guy, and I really hope he gets a contract extension and another chance to shine. He might have lost some pace after his first hamstring injury, but don't forget his brilliant MOTM performance when he got the chance in the Marseille away game, showing that he still has what it takes and still is plenty fast enough for Fabian's style. The fact that he can play on both sides could just mean that he's considered useful enough to keep around. Fingers crossed.

Since that breakthrough season where he was touted as the next England right back, I don't remember him playing more than a handful of games at a time of us. I appreciate when he does play, he's usually decent, but that's not a reason to keep a player who we are basically paying to keep the medical team busy.
I think fans are sometimes a bit blinkered, or sentimental, or something else, but there is absolutely no point in keeping this lad in the hope that when he's injury free he'll be an asset for us, because he's clearly never going to be injury free.
Let's say our goodbyes, and put his wages to better use. I literally couldn't care less about how much money we get for him, or what he's worth. Let's just free up his wages.

Agreed, as l said previously he still has a part to play within the 1st team squad. At the moment we simply don't have a like for like replacement for him.
Maybe if Kadioglu does come in that will change, but hey, he isn't here yet is he?

Of course it's not quite the same, but I was reading the 2019 and 2020 posts in the Danny Welbeck thread and noted how many people didn't want us to sign him because of his injury issues. I hope wherever Lamptey ends up, his club are able to fix him up like we did with Welbz.

Always thought he was a bit of one trick pony (ran very fast) and his delivery was questionable, but certainly had impact off the bench and when on his game he could win a game on his own. But overall don't think he is fit enough or consistently good to keep.

Yes agreed you are probably right, although he can also operate as a centre back of course. At the same time though he is a very different type of defender to Tariq Lamptey.

He's one that would go with most people's well wishes I think. Did well for us and played his part but didn't seem to find his speed after the latest injury and his speed was his biggest asset.
