Yes, I saw the local FB pages. We thought the only way it could happen if it was speeding and clipped the kerb.
Everything came to a standstill as there was another prang on the C7 by the cemetery. I hope nobody needed an ambulance last night.

Firstly, obviously I hope nobody was hurt.
But this just reminded me, does anybody know if the C7 was ever signposted as that? Because it's the only C road I've ever come across which people know the number for. For that matter, I don't even know if it actually is the C7 or if people just call it that.

It is definitely the C7. Generally C roads are smaller lanes between villages, which aren’t B roads.

Many roads are formally listed by the relevant agencies as C roads but I have never seen one signed this way or listed in a road atlas / sat nav system. The C7 is very unique in being one that people know by name

Well this is the thing, I don't have a problem with what a C road is, and I don't doubt it actually is the C7 (although if it turned out the council had renumbered it at some point without anybody noticing it wouldn't surprise me), but I've never met anybody who can explain how they know it's the C7. People just call it that as though it's obvious.

C7 is interesting. It shouldn't really be the C7 - because all road numbers in that area should begin with a 2 - being clockwise from the A2. The road numbers beginning with a 7 are all up in Scotland. Very odd, I guess the UK road numbering system only applies to A & B roads?

I was watching a police interceptor type program the other week.
The copper said that the vast majority of accidents are caused by people not paying attention.

I remember a while ago, maybe a year or so, a car ended up on its roof on the westbound A27, about 100 yards east of the Kingston roundabout.
I passed it while it was still on its roof. If I remember correctly, the road was wet.
So, a wet road, wet brakes, approaching a junction, probably queuing traffic, [fill in the missing details], car ends up on its roof.
The policeman on the radio later said 'people should drive to the conditions'.
Later on, the owner of the car was on this very forum, trying to maintain 'it was an accident' and not his fault.

Yeah C and below is just a council thing.
Even on bridge reports and that sort of thing I've never actually seen a road referred to by its C-number. I gather from some of the less interesting websites on my search history that there are a few dotted around the country where it's made it onto the signs (this isn't the first time this has crossed my mind) which was why I was wondering if that one had been at some point.
Arguably it would be much more impressive and much less worrying if he'd somehow managed to do it on purpose.

You can do something 'not on purpose' and it is still your own fault.
I once had an accident on Newhaven swing bridge. I went straight into the back of the car in front, which then got the car in front of her. So I got three cars at once.
All for taking my eyes off the road and looking at a woman whose dress was flicking up as she walked over the bridge.

Generally speaking, there are A-roads and B-roads - then C-roads for the 'middling' sorts of roads just below B standard, and then minor roads prefaced U or D roads commonly known as 'unclassified'. The majority of roads are tarmac, and the ones that are non-tarmac up our way are all U-roads.
Except however; we do have a C-road (ie: just below a B-road, but well above the 'minor' roads) in Mosedale like this. It's the only unsealed (non-tarmac) C-road I know of.
I can't decide whether it's funnier to claim that was my sister, mum or nanny.
But I'm sure it must have been one of them.
