Degree apprenticeships are an excellent deal for the students (sorry, apprentices) and employers. You get training on the job as well as the theoretical stuff at the University. My daughter's bestie has got a place on one and it sounds a great deal. For the University, it's an administrative nightmare!
I'm interested why you think University is a scam.

Well spotted. The press coverage every year is tiresome. Where were they when we were doing our 11 plus?If results have improved since last year, we'll be told that the Exams are too easy, and Grade As are showered on kids like confetti.
If results are worse than last year, we'll be told that the schools are letting our children down and that teachers should be sacked

My lad has got a D*DM in Sport & Sports Science (BTEC), which has got him a place at Brighton Uni to study Sports & Exercise Science.
Hes deferred for a year though, and is off to Australia in 5 weeks time to play cricket in the NSW leagues for 6 months. Really pleased for him.

Could you get my daughter in please? She's an STH and can name all our players, including those who don't play. Annoyingly that didn't come up in the exams.

Got Distinction* B and C. Which is understandable what I would've hoped for and I also find out I don't think I got the jobs I applied for either. Shit day

I was the first in my family to get into Uni...UWE.
Rather proud that my daughter today saw my UWE and raised the bar somewhat with two A* and one mark off a third (believe its going to VAR) and will have a vested interest in the Boat Race.

In '89, when I got my A levels, there was a special award ceremony in town that was arranged by the father of one of my fellow students.
A celebration of achievement for securing prestigious university places.
Despite securing a place at Oxford and UCL, I wasn't invited. I chose UCL.
The night of the ceremony I was having a lovely time watching 'The Wolfgang Press' at The Marquee Club.
The daughter of the person who arranged the event received the prizes and was briefly a Tory MP.

My background is the same, my father worked in a factory and mother was a housewife, I was raised on a council estate. My brother and I were the first to go to uni in our families. I know what you mean by “it really came home”
