I have to say that generally I think it is excellent hence 20+ years on here.

I may have mentioned it before  but I find dishonest posters frustrating, particularly repeat offenders. The NSC patron thing is good because it means that the poster has been honest enough to give bank details to Bozza, but doesn't offer the same level of provenance to those that cannot donate.

I wonder if as part of the 'sign up' process the new account should have to reply to a mod without using a VPN in order to prove they're not an already banned user. A status of 'NSC patron', 'NSC user' or whatever could be assigned. Only new accounts would have to do it, but any existing posters could message a mod without a VPN to get that status if they wanted.

Who knows, it may make the mods job a little easier

Other than that nothing really. It get's a bit silly in the off season but that's now an NSC institution.
It doesn't really work like that. A lot of big ISPs now pool and re-use IP addresses so comparisons of valid IPs return multiple users. Also people move around. For example they'll use their phone on away days but maybe from a train wifi or maybe they've got 5G. I was apparently posting from 'Barcelona' the other week. I wasn't. I was on holiday and the hotel group whose wifi I was using were based in Barcelona. I then got stuck at the airport veering from wifi to 4g. So for ten days my posting would have looked 'suss'.

What we do know is when people are always using a VPN and those people invariably have something to hide.

A job can be defined as the regular work that a person does to earn money

But it can also mean a particular piece of work or something that is your responsibility

Moderators are doing a job.
Sigh. Trolling. Thread ban.

I'd write more but I'm afraid there might be a word limit soon.

Nothing. I like it the way it is.

I know my own views, but generally try and avoid the more toxic political threads, so they don't usually bother me that much.

How about some board-wide moderation for posters who annoy others too much on threads: add a "shut up" emoji to the "Like" list. Enough shut ups for someone's posts across a thread and they are automatically banned from it.

In my opinion If you are going onto a politically charged thread like the one about the riots then its a bit odd to expect people not to express strong and polarised views.

Having said that, and this is just a personal preference of mine, but I would rather if the political discussions were done away from the big board (in a similar fashion to what happened with the Brexit thread). The reason for this is I come on the site mainly for football related stuff but because I have strong views on things I find it really difficult not to get drawn in to looking at, and getting involved in, the other political threads. If the political stuff was on a separate part of the site it would be much easier to ignore it if I felt like I needed a break!

Remember the 'thumbs down' emoji? That was something similar to what you suggestion (without the auto-banning functionality). Our experience was that it was abused by a number of posters; albeit some of whom are no longer members of this manor.

Beat me to it - DT's finest moment. Up there with Fireman Dan's adventures as the best thread on NSC

Got to be a limit in the number of replies per day on a post or something along those lines. Won't name names but there is someone that literally hijacks every single post and makes it about them . That would improve things

True, but each user can only put one emoji on each post so if someone isn't posting lots of messages they won't be able to be thread banned. Or maybe they'll take the first set of shut ups as a hint to back off, and if they don't that's their choice.

What's wrong with using the Ignore Thread function? Or the Thread Prefix filter? Or a combination of both?

I didn't even know that function existed! How do you access it?

Edit..I can see how to ignore a thread but not how to ignore threads of a certain topic.
You can view threads only of a certain prefix by clicking on that prefix. I just did it with 'Albion'

To get all of them back click on the x next to the Prefix [Albion]
