Done a Frexit, now in London
I'm currently looking for my next role and have found one which fits perfectly and which I'm well qualified to do.

It's working for a set of Christian run care homes as Head of IT. Then I get to this statement in the job ad :

  • Applicants must be evangelical Christians (This role has an Occupational Requirement to be filled by a Christian under the provisions of the Equality Act (2010)).
I'm not a evangelelical Christian. I'm not applying to be some preacher - just someone that can run the IT systems.

How is this actually legal to descriminate against someone of no religion ? Despite their quote of the Equality Act I can't see how this is actually allowed.

This came up on my linkedin today. I was christened, I went to a CofE school, married in a church, had my child christneed but evangelelical...

Thank you for all the typically 'witty' NSC replies ! I'm going to apply anyway and see how far I get.

It seems very short sighted to me to make that demand.

They'll end up with massive outages, cyber attacks aplenty and constant software update failures, but at least the head of IT will know the meaning of the gospel of Luke.

Why do they need a Head of IT anyway? A few prayers to the big man should be able to get any major updates over the line.

Seems that telling certain people that there is no point in applying for certain jobs is becoming more common……

Would you lie though? a weekend brushing up on the subject should be enough to get you through.
They may not even ask any faith questions if they do
use buzzwords ‘ I believe my faith put me on this path to your care homes, I would like to run your IT and when I can I would like to take the time to share my journey with others.

Just reply “that would be an Ecumenical matter” to any difficult Qs…

The dull part of the south coast
If you feel this angry about it, go to the interview and show them your cross!
That reminds me of the old joke about the two nuns driving down a country lane. All of a sudden Dracula climbs onto to the bonnet of their car. One nun screams to the other “Sister! Show him your cross! Show him your cross!”. The other nun obliges, she gets out of the car, approaches Dracula and let’s rip “Get off my car you blood sucking bastard! Go on, f*** off!”

I thank you.

It’s weird because at work, I sat through an equalities for managers session that told me we weren’t allowed to do that. Maybe it’s just my work 🤣

Will be binned off immediately as not meeting the basic criteria I would think ? If you don’t state that you’re not, then it’ll be binned off later because you‘ll be assumed to have failed to understand the criteria ?
