With far-right protests being promoted across the UK on social media, one Muslim chaplain has responded by offering cold drinks, burgers and chips to anyone who turns up outside his mosque this weekend.
Adam Kelwick issued an invitation to demonstrators to come inside the mosque, in northwest England, for a discussion about the issues affecting the community.
He also said he had been made aware of a counter-protest planned in the area, which he said was "not how we do things".
"Anybody who attends the protests tomorrow, we're going to be handing out free cold drinks to you, we're going to be handing out burgers and chips, and also an invitation, if you would be so kind, to come into the mosque," Mr Kelwick said.
"Bring your concerns in, let's have a discussion about issues that are affecting our communities and how we can work together to solve them. The key word here being 'together'."
He continued: "I have a feeling that you will be learning a lot of new things, because there is a lot of misinformation and ignorance spread out there about the religion of Islam."

And after decades of minority right wing extremism, NF, BNP, Combat88, Combat18, Brexit and Reform, ranging from quasi legitimate businesses, to underground paramilitaries, these SCUM have been attracting disaffected white yoof for 60 years. Surely it is obvious by now there is nothing of value there?

However I recall listening to an interview with an ex BNP thug who came to his senses. He and his mates were into violence and intimidation. What tipped it for him was watching his mate pushing and shoving a tiny female Indian-heritage librarian who was trying to deal with children and their library books. He suddenly though 'what the f*** are we doing?'

He very quickly abandoned rightwing extremism and thuggery and started to work against it, eventually publishing a book about his redemption.

So despite my disdain I wonder whether they may be hope for some of the oafs we have seen out and about lately. What might it be that draws their poison?

Of course few if any will accept the Imam's invitation. In some respects they probably fear the possibility that their dehumanization of 'the enemy' will unravel. To keep the hate you have to keep your distance.

And I could flip it around - perhaps I should spend time with right wing extremists to find out whether they are deep down just nice lads who love their dear old mums? Do you think they would accept me in their midst? What if I wince if they chant 'there ain't no black in the union jack'? Might I find myself in hot water? Or should I just accept them as irredeemable ****s and move on? Are they irredeemable, though? If shown a little kindness would they melt, or back away, snorting like horses?
