Many moons ago i used to be a hockey umpire and when i started the lifted ball was completely banned. When the game moved from grass to astro several rules were changed over the years. By the time i stopped and hung up my whistle the then laws meant you could lift a ball forward so long as any player was not within 5 yards and also anyone who was receiving/intercepting a lifted pass could not be tackled while in that process, thus reducing the danger.
Whether that is still the case i do not know.

That’s still the rule for aerials.
You can lift with people within 5 but as long as safe (i.e. they’re not right in front of you)
Receiving player must be given 5yds to control/bring down the ball. The key(for the umpire) is who the receiving player is (the one moving the least is probably a good bet). If in doubt, decision goes against the team performing the aerial.
When I play in defence (Im normally a striker but played a lot of defence too) I used to do aerials all the time (sometimes successfully!
). As a forward, more about receiving the ball well.

Don't really get the criticism of the BBC here. If you want to "choose" what events you particularly want to watch (there's many events on apparently!) you have to pay for Discovery+ and Eurosport. The BBC hasn't the budget and the Olympics isn't protected like the WC. I've been quite happy flicking between the two live streams on iplayer. Accept that or pay up.
Not sure which is more nauseating, the Simone Biles fawning at this Olympics or the Lionel Messi fawning at the last World Cup

They were, not that you'd have known watching the stream. Really poor jumbled up coverage, frustrating.
World class swimmers are supreme athletes and many nations are great in the sport making it so competitive with some rivalries. All the way back to Mark Spitz in 72, I’ve loved Olympic swimming.
And the BBC just do it so well. Starting in my time with the great Alan Weekes.
