Indeed, however, my sympathy meter for the guy in question is flickering on low if he was being a complete twat. Even if PC Letsfuckingaveit is on duty most of us manage to navigate an airport without getting our heads kicked in.

Playing up in an airport is asking for trouble even if the reaction to whatever he did was completely over the top.
I would say for many it's less sympathy for the individual generally if reports of actions prior to the kicking were correct. It's more that a Police officer was more than happy to engage in the way he did. It makes you wonder what they would get up to if they could get away with it. And indeed, if my upbringing remembers correctly, they would get away with a lot. Folk don't have sympathy for hardened criminals, this is just about Police conduct.

Shot dead? He would have been lucky. In some places they would of skinned him alive first, and then made him eat his own testackles.
Skinned him alive first, and then made to eat your own testicles ? It's a doddle. Softies.

I’d also say the police have a tough and sometimes impossible job and I know a couple of coppers who are great people.

Also that a friend of ours currently has a complaint against a copper who hospitalised and nearly killed two people. The “no win no fee” they took it to accepted the case after just 30 seconds of video.

Bad apples in every barrel…..
I am sort of biased when it comes to coppers in general.
My dad is ex BTP and was a good run of the mill bobby.
In 1989, he took a friends mother and son, (who had leukemia and a Man Utd fan) to their home game v Millwall.
After an enjoyable time and on leaving the ground, they got caught up in a melee between fans, resulting in my dad having his warrant card, cash and wallet pinched.
Tried to report it to a Manchester bobby, who told him it wasn't his job!
Cut a long story short, my dad bumped into a BTP inspector he recognised from London, explained what had happened.
This inspector comes up trumps with first class tickets back to Battle, via Euston and to be picked up by BTP and taken to Charing X.

Not all plod are bad and do have some wronguns in the generic forces.

The most curious thing..
Can cysts form from a trauma injury that quickly ?, genuine question, I thought they developed over a period of time.

"Arachnoid cysts are the most common type of brain cyst. They are often congenital, or present at birth (primary arachnoid cysts). Head injury or trauma can also result in a secondary arachnoid cyst. The cysts are fluid-filled sacs, not tumors.

The likely cause is a split of the arachnoid membrane, one of the three layers of tissue that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord."

As someone recently retired from a long career in the police I'm going to weigh in with my two pence worth.

Taken in isolation the clip (and I emphasise the word 'clip') looks horrible and provokes outrage and disbelief. However, none of us know the full context of what happened. The key point being was it a lawful and justifiable use of force? Maybe and maybe not, we don't know. By all accounts the police had been attacked by these persons and seeing as they are armed officers (at least some of those in the clip are) perhaps one of those on the ground decided it would be a good idea to reach for one of the coppers guns? I'm not saying that happened but if that was the case or if the cop thought it might happen then that could represent a lethal threat and tasering and a few swift kicks to the head could be justified quite easily in those circumstances as a reasonable response to a potentially lethal threat. Of course there is equally the same chance that the cop in question has not been subject to any such threat and may well have been fighting with the suspects beforehand and just seen red mist, overreacted and lost his shit in the heat of the incident. Its easily done unfortunately even with the best training when someone attacks you your base instincts take over and it can be difficult to maintain any form of control especially when there are multiple assailants.

God knows I've been attacked and fought with dozens of people over the years when I was a cop and no amount of training fully prepares you for the real thing. Learning all the Carlos Fandango fancy take-down moves, restraint methods etc in the comfort of a police gymnasium when play fighting your colleagues bears no resemblance to the real thing. When it happens what usually occurs is you grab hold of anything you can and kick, punch and claw at the person with the same amount of force they are using and more in order to win the fight and get control so you can successfully restrain them. It is often very unpleasant to witness, a complete clusterfuck of arms, legs and colourful language and somewhere in amongst it all there will be various elements of what you learned in training that gave you enough of an advantage to come out on top. In the aftermath every use of force has to be written up and submitted for scrutiny and over the years I saw many examples of colleagues sanctioned or even prosecuted and dismissed for excessive use of force. Certainly there are plenty of cops that like a good rumble and I know a fair few who were/are a little too excited and enthusiastic when it came to using force , I even experienced 'red mist' descend on me a few times when it all kicked off and I think its a human reaction you cannot fully stop even with regular training.
I suggest you watch the 'clip' again then. The guy is on the ground, face down and the only person near him at that point looks like an female kneeling down. There is no officer within arms reach let alone close enough to grab a weapon. We know that 3 female officers were attacked prior to this and at that point you would expect other officers to use proportionate force to get the situation under control. Stamping on someone's head is not proportionate.

The Police have a very tough job to do and that is why those that do it need to be in control of themselves at all times. Take away the kick and the stamp, then public opinion would almost certainly be against the man on the floor and what he is alleged to have done to the female officers. The actions of this one officer now overshadow that and it seems have now been a catalyst for potential unrest in the area.

I can’t believe people are making a defence. The police do a dangerous job. They put themselves at risk every day. It does not give them the right to exact revenge on people by crossing a line with violence. It has to be proportionate. Whether someone had previously assaulted a colleague does not mean you are allowed some freebies.

I have mates who have served with marines and special forces. A key part of their job is to be able to turn off violence as soon as it is no longer required. It is basically like a switch. As soon as the situation is dealt with you change. It seems similar to this situation where it had been dealt with and the violence appears to have been unnecessary. I appreciate it is hard but it is literally their job.

When people say “just let the police do their job” - I wonder if they would feel the same if police took the law into their own hands and gave one of their mates and unnecessary kicking. Nice to see Richard tice stand up for public sector workers though. I wonder if he will do the same with other occupations.

I would suggest that most aren't bad.

However, it seems that it may be the case that the 'one bad apple' doctrine has been used as a mantra to cover up institutionalized wrong doing. This was evident in the met, and may be an issue elsewhere. The latest incident in Manchester comes on top of the gratuitous strip searching of females debacle. The word 'entitlement' has been used. And arrogance.

Why are they armed? Is it really necessary in the UK?

If carrying a weapon has issues around safety (that they can be grabbed etc) when carrying out general policing, then why are they carrying them?
Just a week ago my neighbour behind reported a burglary in an empty house near us. I looked out the window and saw two policemen poking around outside us (before i knew the above). i went down to speak to them because i have been in contact with the council and social workers about squatters in this empty house - i was amazed to see that both officers had side arms (not yellow tasers) amid 3 others who did not.

Where is the element of racism ?
I've seen all the clips etc and hear no racist comments etc.
Is it because they were just innocent bystanders in your eyes ????
Are you seriously attempting a serious reply to Crodo? I guess you are pretty new to NSC

The recipient of the kick and stamp to the head, is one of three brothers. One of the brothers is a Manchester policeman.

It’s not abnormal for armed police to supplement what you and I would term ‘normal’ police…it’s down to numbers according to my son who works for Sussex Police

As regards to the Airport I’m not surprised there are armed officers

I'm not convinced that an authoritarian police state where violence and confiscation of private owned evidence is really the way forward right now.

We should have more police and they should all be highly trained (and better paid) and any kind of violence from them should be an absolutely last resort. They should all have body cams. Nothing is wrong with the public filming them, in fact, it should be encouraged - and obviously they should never have the right to confiscate public videos, or be allowed to prevent them from filming.
yes , but should there be no go ghettos in many cities across the country ...? is this part of a free society.

I fully agree with the OP.

Looking at the KNOWN facts of the airport case, many of the facts of the case aren’t in dispute. What we don’t have is a full picture of what happened which started events.

- something happens
- man allegedly assaults 3x armed police officers, leaving one (female) with a broken nose
- a taser is deployed
- man is shown being kicked in the head and stomped on his head by police officer

Really what isn’t known in this case is what the dispute was about and what caused the disturbance.
