It is so very obvious that the game would be improved massively, by just changing the scoring to increase the value of a goal (scored in the net) over that of a point (launching it over the bar, uncontested). Currently there is just no incentive for a team to work the ball up the field, or put together any sequence of passes. The ratio of 3 points for a goal, means the teams just take it in turns to launch the ball over the posts from the halfway line, which gets very tedious, if you actual watch more than one game a year.

Cork scored 38 today, with just ONE goal, and 35 points. That isn’t entertaining.

I came to exactly that view within about 5minutes and switched back to watching Mark Wood break his body down to its constituent atoms one ball at a time.

Watched it all through today - absolutely brilliant game. I had turned on to watch the Tour de France, but switched for a look during the adverts and was hooked almost immediately. If your not sure what it is, think of a cross between hockey, football, rugby and egg & spoon racing (with a bit of golf thrown in) without any tattoos ! BBC ought to get wise and start showing it a bit more.

Sanders was a handful of years behind him, they really only played one season collectively in the U-23s (2017-18) and even then they weren't on the pitch together a whole lot for one reason or another. But yes, they were both promising for a while - definitely thought Sanders had a chance to make it. He has signed for Crewe this off-season.

yeh I wish GAA in general had more coverage over here. You do get some games shown on BBC involving the Northern Irish teams but that's pretty much it until you get to the business end of the season

I watched 15 mins of it before getting bored for this very reason. Clare scored their 2nd goal, the Clare fans went mad and I thought to myself I wasn't surprised as they've jumped from a point behind to presumably about 4 or 5 ahead. But no, they went 2 ahead. At that point, I thought "oh just more long distance shots coming then" and turned it over.

The contrast between this hurling final and the large number of tedious Euros matches I recently sat through was startling. It was literally non-stop action with the result in the balance up to the last second of extra time. And you have to remind yourself that these boys are amateurs playing in front of 80,000!

However, I agree with previous comments that the game would benefit by awarding more points for a goal. I'm sure it's been debated long and hard over the years...

The highlanders have their own version of this which is called shinty... don't think it's exactly the same but still pretty mad still.

Hurling and Shinty apparently share origins, but you only need to watch five minutes of that to see that it is way more like HOCKEY than it is like Hurling.

question for the Irish residents/experts

in terms of support do Hurling and Gaelic Football overlap much? Is it mostly down to personal choice or are there parts of the country where one is much bigger than the other?
