WBG is a great player when you need a deep lying midfielder who is also a playmaker.
The problem with him is that he lacks the physicality for the Premier League when the team are out of possession. In particular, he’s quite slow at covering back when the opposition are in transition and he’s not going to win many headers is he?
We seem to be doing an overhaul of the midfield.
I really do hope that our seemingly open mind to letting him go is an indication that Gross is staying.
I then think that if he acquire Gomez then we have some really good midfield options.

If Gilmour has already spoken to Conte and is happy to go then it’s down to the fee.
£10-12m as reported is lowball but with achievable bonuses on top and a good sell-on it might just happen IF he’s not going to fit into Hurzeler’s playing style.

He's a valuable Premier League squad player that capable.of MoM performances. Most teams mid to lower prem would snap him up for £12m.
Assume we'd rather he didn't go to a rival, so might be prepared to take less than the £20m (I reckon he's worth).

And this. I think WBG has only been back a week and Fabian surely hasn't had time to judge if he wants him in the team.
Though I would suspect that not only has Fab already watched most of our games from the RDZ era close to when they were played but has watched a lot of them again in some detail, probably starting on the day his agent first mentioned our interest.
He'll have had a good idea of who fits where and how well before he ever set foot in lancing. If Billy's down as 'lovely player but can't see I'm every really going to use him" then that opinion is only really going to change if he shows something in training different to what he's shown in games to date.

I want him to stay because he knows who he's passing to before he's even received the ball. His performance when he started V Switzerland was better than any of the ENglish midfield players too in the Euros. He had a very good season last season.

Say we bought Billy for around £7.5m, then the agent fee and sign-on fee perhaps took that number to £9m or something. Add around £2m in wages and £500k-£1m in flying his arse all over England and Europe, and then 5% of the incoming transfer fee lost to solidarity payments. Lucky to make any sort of profit in that case.
Maybe its the new club model: buy young talented players, turn them into key starting players in the team, and then sell them with no kind of profit.
Or... £12m ain't happening unless hell freezes over.

Last season WBG was playing to instructions/position on pitch from RDZ and playing well. Maybe playing to instructions/position on pitch from Fabian this season . . . who knows. Everyone has to prove themselves in training and on the pitch to the ideas of Fabian. Everyone is a squad player at the moment until they prove themselves, look at Dahoud. Everyone thought he was a RDZ man until about 5 games in. Its a squad game these days not just 11 players. Fabian will change tactics to suit personnel and opposition.
