You'd be quite annoyed if you paid £195 (for a normal ticket) to see Anderson's final Saturday in test cricket, only to have the match last less than 50% of the allocated time.

I happened to be watching on television when Anderson went past Walsh's record for most balls in test matches, during a test in New Zealand. You could see the strapping on his shoulder through his shirt when they showed the replay.

That was 6years and 10,000balls ago now.

Very emotional listening to Jimmy speak for the last time now.

What a player, what a man. His longevity is so remarkable that I modelled my action on his as an 11 year old. I'm 30 now and haven't played in a decade. The fact he's still able to perform at the highest level is just unbelievable.

The best this country has ever had. Probably the best cricket has ever had.

For all those that watched WIs in prime how very sad to see them now. I have said for a long time 20/20 will kill 3/5 day game and it is happening. India England and Australia will hang on the longest.
In years to come those in charge will say how wealthy cricket is without mentioning how they have ruined long form of game.

When the West Indies chased 300 odd to beat England at Leeds in 2017 I was so happy. It gave me a belief that they were on their way back. I'm cricket first, England second.

Seeing them crushed like they were in this Test is not good news.

I went yesterday, though I didn't pay £195! I was glad the bloke who got our tickets (MCC member) had gone for day 2. I think the same may be true of day 3 and later for the other WI tests.

It's painfully clear that while their bowling is just about OK, they've brought in youngsters to bat who simply don't have the technique or temperament for Test Cricket. We'll run through them, Jimmy or no Jimmy.

There were four of us together and one seat spare on the end of our row once we'd taken our seats. A few minutes later a West Indies supporter was sat in it. He didn't return after tea. Clearly he was just there to see them bowl.

I don't know what the answer is* but it is sad to see the team that was the powerhouse when I first got into cricket in this sort of sorry state. They can't be thrown out of Tests though and the only way the youngsters will improve their long game is to play the long game. Maybe cheaper tickets for WI games?















*actually I do. Burn T20 with fire and tar and feather anyone involved in The Hundred.

I'd put Bob Willis just above Jimmy for England. Interesting that their figures are pretty close excepting that Bob played 90 Tests.

All really spot on here. The answer is money of course. And unless there is a fairer distribution of it in test cricket then the game will be doomed to fail (or at least, be a smaller symbolic competition between 4 teams).

The World Test Championship was the right first step, but its implementation has been dreadful. It should have standardised the game, instead it has just shown it up to be an uneven calendar, with a league table that is somewhat warped (on purpose) by the biggest player.

Regarding the ticket prices, £195 was for the upper tier of the Grand Stand. For Sri Lanka that's £140 each with no deductions for Under 16s. The cheapest ticket for that, (not including restricted view or alcohol free zone) is £115 for adults and £40 for U16. That's £310 for a family of 4 to see England trounce sub-standard opposition. As someone who grew up as a Middlesex Colt, and now lives within a ten minute walk from Lords, this is the first year where I've found myself unable to afford a ticket and I find that really sad. It can't be sustainable for the game.

Yeah, I must admit EXCEPT when we play Australia I'd rather watch a good game with a tight finish as opposed to a one-sided England win. That game was about as entertaining as watching a kitten being repeatedly punched in the face :(

Yep, mine was £115. A fairly decent seat in the lower Compton at a diagonal to the wicket.

There's absolutely no way I'd have paid it if it hadn't been Jimmy's last game and absolutely no way I'd have got it if my mate wasn't an MCC member. I certainly won't be rushing back.

Oh yes. Australia is the exception. Quite. No better sight in sport than an Aussie on the way back to the pavilion or haplessly chasing a lost cause in the field.
