I see that Amanda Staveley and her old man have sold their 6% stake in Newcastle (down from the original 10% in 2021).

I wonder what this means for the geordies? Now the "acceptable" face of the Saudi regime has been quietly ditched, will they start to flex their muscles more?

Amanda Staveley… acceptable face…

No, still doesn’t compute.

Currently watching their friendly against Yokohama Marinos. They're down 1-0 and could easily been 2-0 or 3-0. And thats against Yokohama who below both of the teams we played.

Seen a few English vs Japanese teams the last few days and think we undervalue our performances.

Newcastle look like they could be in for a rough season.

(2-0 now!)

Southampton are 6-1 to beat them on the first day of the season at St James Park. That is astonishing value if there is any truth to your speculation.

I wouldn’t say ‘astonishing value’. It seems very unlikely that Southampton will win there but that said, there nearly always is a surprise on the opening day so it’s possible. I’d have Newcastle as strong favourites myself but go for it if you disagree!

My dear professor. The ‘astonishing value’ is based on the premise proposed by the poster I am quoting. I don’t subscribe to that view currently as I’m not fond of concluding league form from friendlies. I agree with your hypothesis that Newcastle are strong favourites.

Well, I think they might be in for a rough season as I said, but I'm not putting any money on Southampton.

Eddie Howe projects eventually run cold after a while so you may have a point but they have managed to keep their best established players so far and may well add some of Palace’s star performances to their rosta too.
