[Football] Should we have a seperate England haters thread?

Question I want to ask is, do I HAVE to support them? Because I resent the obligation I seem to feel from friends, colleagues, Facebook and even some on here.

My mother was from Clydebank so nowadays I get more pleasure supporting Scotland despite them being shit.

Wearing my Scotland shirt to work the “bantz” descended in to piss taking then subsequently a pile on, that became unbearably tedious so for the other two matches I simply didn’t bother.

I’ve served my time with England, I was in the travel club for 10 years and have been abroad with them, however I slowly lost interest which wasn’t helped by an obvious right wing element following them (this was not long after the Twin Towers attacks) and some of the behaviour I witnessed from grown men following that Croatia defeat in the pissin rain and antics such as the bike in the canal in Amsterdam.
I just slowly lost enthusiasm for them that hasn’t returned.
I support The Albion these days, that’s it.

You don't have to support anyone. As regards 'bantz', unfortunately there are always folk who don't know when it starts to get tedious.

We sure are, but boy it’s tedious watching it. No matter what Randy says, this is probably the dullest England football I’ve watched since the turnip.

Watching Spain strike their third and dreaming of the pace and skill these sides display.

You may laugh but I do like Southgate, as I compare him to his recent predecessors who were all far worse

The performances have been dull at times but under Keegan, Sven, Capello, Hodgson etc the performances were clueless

The Slovakia game seemed similar to Iceland 8 years ago the difference was we lost the Iceland one, tonight we won. So he must be doing something right. One world cup semi, 1 Euro final, another WC quarter and now another Euro quarter (at least) says that isn't luck

I've talked to a couple of mates about this feeling I've had during this Euro run.

I'm almost 40 and in my entire life as an English England fan all I can remember is this kind of pressure. We know that not reaching at least the quarter finals is basically a failure. And anything above that is Elysium, until we go out on penalties.

This year I've paid attention to "smaller" nations who just seem happy to be there. To be able to enjoy the experience of playing an international competition without that pressure.

I'd like to experience that one day instead of this constant cycle of build up followed by disappointment.

What's made it even more frustrating this year is that we absolutely have a squad capable of performing better than we've seen so far. We've had maybe a total of 70 minutes across the tournament where we we've looked like a decent side and with the players we have available, that is poor.

It just feels too exhausting to get angry or upset about at this point :shrug:

It isn't hate. It's expectant ambivalence.

They didn’t have a complete transformation of the England setup, from kids to first team, or St George’s Park - a dedicated Centre of excellence.

Terry Venables was let go after a brilliant 1996. Hoddle had to go too.

Sven bless him came up against a brilliant Brazil in 2002, we gave it good go too. Then bought in Rooney in 2004 who lit up the tournament.

Let’s not pretend Gareth is the only England manager to have success, but he’s also had some of them plumest ties you could dream of. Italy 2021 were bang average.

He had 2 good tournaments, we should have shook hands after the 3rd. I don’t think international managers need longevity. Like us as a football club the England setup should enable new managers to come in a bit more seemlessly.

I don’t hate him, he’s done okay, but 4 tournaments is too much.

For me, no.
The difference was a moment of sheer brilliance in the 95th minute - our first shot on target I believe?
Great start to the first half of ET and then a pretty shakey second half.

We’ve been gifted incredibly generous runs in recent years - and reaching the quarter finals should be absolutely minimal bar for England at any tournament, at any time.

So we have a semi final in 2018: 2 shots on target against Croatia over 120 minutes, whilst they double our attempts at goal. We score inside 5 minutes, invite pressure all game and lose.

A final in 2022: Again, 2 shots on target against Italy, over 120 minutes. Again, Italy TRIPLE our total attempts. Again, we score inside 5 minutes, invite pressure and lose on penalties - just after Gareth makes some interesting substitutions for said shootout.

I ain’t buying what you’re selling.

I don't think anyone hates England, it's the manner of performances that aren't inspiring with the quality we have. We all want England to win the thing (even by not playing well) but, its so frustrating watching them and its the manager who people like?

Even though Trippier will be injured and Guehi is suspended and the defence has looked like a bunch of strangers. And even if we go to a back five, (which won’t happen and even if it did the waistcoated prat will not know how to coach it), we will end up with Walker Stones and Konsa.

So far, if you equate the relative situation of Albion’s league position to England’s rankings, the Albion would have had an undeserved win against Cardiff, got lucky draws with Leicester and Gillingham and fluked an extra time win over Exeter.

I mean seriously?

Don’t hate England, just can’t see how Southgate has kept his job for so long.

He is the luckiest manager we have ever had. Everytime he eventually faces a half decent team we lose. He has been on the easy side of draws so many times and what do we have to show for it? Nothing.

If you think that the way he is going about approaching games isn’t clueless, then I’m afraid you have to accept you are in a minority.

He is wasting a generation of talent. Right now he needs to wake up and change a few things. Hopefully there are some players with big voices that can do this for him.

You know you need some sort of election, revolution - or simply a new coach - when you no longer can tell the difference between Gareth Southgate and your own nation.
