There's a large section of posters who despise England, despise Southgate regardless of how we play or the results. Even if we won the tournament they would find fault

How about the haters have their own thread while the patriots who support their nation cheer on the team without the thread being poluted by negative nancies who's every contribution is to slag off the team and manager because to be honest it's really boring

I don’t despise anything, I just think Southgate is tactically one-dimensional and dull. He’s only in the job for a couple more weeks at best anyway.

1) I am England though and through and think Southgate is the man. Come On England
2) I am England through and through but think Southgate is a lovely but clueless manager. This game is likely to annoy me

This is a popular roll out that suits an agenda politically. There are no posters who despise England. One or two from north of the border may hope they lose. Nothing more.

Despise Southgate regardless of how we play or the results

Some truth in that one. A lot of folk have reservations about him, but should acknowledge where he gets things right. Like against Italy in qualifying.

I agree, the football England play is really boring - esp given the quality of the players available to Southgate.

People are probably not negative because they hate England. They're negative because the English national football team is shit.

In a previous post ages ago I quoted Jeff Probyn, the former England rugby prop forward. In a discussion about England’s chances in the Rugby World Cup he stated :

“Ever since the Middle Ages, the Scots, the Welsh, the Irish, the French, the Australians all hate the English.”
