This is what annoys about the whole VAR mess. Why can't a ref just say let me have a look at the screen to check my decision is right. That is effectively what happens in rugby, and by and large works much better.

It wasn't VAR that disallowed it. They just confirmed (slowly) the on field decision.

Interfering only applies if the impeded player is restricted from taking their desired movement or their view was obstructed to the point it effects their movement, which it didn’t.
As you’ve said, keeper didn’t even go for it and wouldn’t have with our without the player that was (unarguably) offside.
Mental decision and if that was against the Albion you’d be going spare.
Keeper goes for it and ploughs into the player they risk giving away a penalty.

But would you have "gone for it" considering that you know there's a giant Dutchman in your way?
I'm not necessarily arguing that the decision was ultimately right, but I think "the keeper didn't even go for it" isn't an entirely convincing argument.

That much I must admit is true. I'd have loved the Dutch to score but I would have expected this to be ruled out every time in the modern game.

Very true, but I’ve played in goal enough times to know when I’m beaten, at which point you’d don’t even bother. You know your corners.
Also, if he’d gone for the dive and hit the player then it would have made the offside call much easier to make, of course the keeper wouldn’t have known that.

Is it just me or have the French fans suddenly become a lot more ultra style this tournament? Normally the French are pretty bang average in terms of numbers and noise in tournament football (only ever used to hear sporadic 'Allez les Bleus') but they seem to have gone all ultra this time round

It's almost like Jermaine Jenas is annoyed at the Dutch for making life difficult for the French tonight. It's called a gameplan. It worked and they almost bloody won if not for a questionable decision! Pundits are so far up the French's arses it's embarrassing.

The first time it’s gone wrong since it began, literally the first, is at the hands of the English officials
They should be working from the principal of: is there a clear and obvious reason to disallow the goal on first viewing? No- goal. The principal they seem to working on instead is: Is there any reason to disallow the goal? Not sure, let’s watch 10 replays and analyse in minute detail- 5 minutes later: not sure, goal disallowed.

Post-match replays and range of angles show what a poor decision that was.
The keeper's stance and bodyweight meant he couldn't have dived for it and, even if he could, he wasn't getting anywhere near it.
