[Albion] Maty Ryan joins Arsenal

Ryan comes across as a player with a big ego, I thought his comments about using the club as a stepping stone were disrespectful, obviously a lot of players may think this but do not say it whilst you are still contracted to the club. Social media is about opinions, there is a load of crap posted as fact. As a professional if you do not like it don’t read it, it is not going to be rosey all the time. The facts show he had lost form, throw your toys out of the Pham and warm your arse at Arsenal if you want. Maty , if your reading this that is my opinion, I don’t need to be told what I can think .

Make no mistake, I respect your opinion even though different to mine. However it’s not a matter of what you can think but what you can express. Think that’s more the point / times we live in now. Sort of a censorship, for fear of situation. ‘‘Twas ever thus really. Question of whether you can afford the lawyers as they say. And money usually talk. Which PL players and clubs have lots of! so be careful what you express on the world wide webby. Not just football, anything really.

Looking likely that he’ll sign permanently for Arsenal if you believe the Sun (which about 95% of people on here probably don’t).

It’d be nice to get the £8m value quoted on transfermarkt for the lad.

Not impossible that we agreed a loan to buy deal, similar to the Knocky to Fulham deal.

It would be great work if we did.
It would also explain Maty's comments about moving to a bigger club, which seemed premature.

Or could be the Sun making shit up.

Written two days after Maty was dropped, once again corroborating Maty’s version of events.

https://www.messengernewspapers.co.uk/sport/national/18955289.graham-potter-admits-mat-ryan-heading-brighton-exit/

It’s another article explaining the decision. He wasn’t dropped solely because of form, it was the attributes Sanchez has, a big commanding keeper (or a monster as GP recently put it). He no longer fitted, same as Glenn, same as Duffy and Knocky. They moved away from the low block, you need a bigger keeper to deal with crosses and set pieces.

The difference with this one was the decision seems pretty ruthless - one day you’re number one, the next you can leave. Once again I will state, I have no issue with the decision, I just don’t think you can blame Ryan for being gutted about it.

I'm pretty sure Sanchez confirmed this himself in the video about him that the club put out a couple of weeks ago. I remember at the time thinking it was very honest, but he said something along the lines of "the gaffer wanted someone who could dominate their box and not be afraid to come out for balls and that's what I bring to the team."

You're right – players come and go and we have to accept that. On a related note, what got me about Ryan's comments was not the whole "Brighton is a stepping stone to a bigger club", it was the fact that he made out he'd been through some terrible ordeal at the club (instead of being a bit shit for a while and then getting dropped) and then compared himself and/or his situation to KdB, Mo Salad and loads of other established PL players at top PL clubs! Talk about a little bit deluded...

Sanchez is likely the best keeper we’ve had in the Premier League era and I don’t want to hear an argument about it.
Exactly. All that angst because he fell out with de Zerbi is just that - angst. He was one of the best GKs we ever had, and it's a pity de Zerbi (and Ricardo) just took against him. Better than Steele? Undoubtedly. Better than Bart? - Bart has yet to show he is better than prime Sanchez. At the time RDZ and Sanchez fell out, de Zerbi was a god on NSC, who could do no wrong and was above any criticism - any variance from that agenda would be slapped down instantly. For some though, de Zerbi isn't quite as infallible as he once was!
The 'Sanchez was the pits and a ****** for downing tools' isn't quite the absolute incontrovertible mantra that it once was - although there are some who just won't let that go.

My views on Sanchez are nothing to do with your invented reasons, more to do with the regular howlers he'd do resulting in goals against and games lost/drawn from winning positions.

Good luck to them! The second worst keeper we have had in the EPL era! Just pipped by Steele to the number 1 spot!
Maybe, but Jason Steele made 15 appearances in our best ever season when we were the sixth best team in the entire country.

I'd simply say we haven't had a shit GK for some time now. Steele had a poorer season last time but the guy has done everything asked of him, so I won't be disparaging towards him even if on balance I might agree with you.

Yeh right. OK. I think more of the points he gained/saved. Prejudices, eh? Verbruggen an upgrade? Maybe Rushworth would be if we could bring him in for next season and sell off Sanchez next summer for big bucks (though TBF Chelsea did pay the Boehley tax). De Zerbi buggered up the goal-keeping situation, and we paid the price with the GK rotation last season.
You really think it worked well? Seriously?

Sorry but you’ve said your opinion is that Sanchez is our worst Premier League goalkeeper. Steele’s inept performances speak for themselves which puts him bottom (by a mile) and do I have to remind you of Maty Ryan? The guy never made a save, couldn’t catch a cold and couldn’t kick past the half way line!

That puts Sanchez 2nd behind Bart at the absolute worst! And Bart hasn’t really proved anything yet

Sanchez ….dumped by Chelsea from PL games, also Spain. What next for El Sulk, a loan to his home town club FC Cartagena?
Lost his place when injured - although admittedly the Chelsea sheep had cottoned on to the NSC's 'Brighton's third GK' crap. He can wallow in his Chelsea wages for a bit (can' blame him for that; I would!) and then have a very good career at a top European (or a middle/lower level PL) club when he's ready.

All GKs make howlers, unfortunately for Sanchez, he tended to let the one howler impact the remainder of his game compounding the error when he really should have brushed it off and moved on. You literally could see in his demeanour that he was still grappling with having made a mistake, 30-40 minutes later. He always did that even under Potter. Any comparisons to Maty Ryan though is ridiculous, as @GT49er said, he is the best keeper we have had in recent years. Unfortunately he couldn’t bend to RDZ’s style of football-playing GK - while established players like Dunky, Lallana, March etc all adapted their football under RDZ, it just wasn’t Sanchez’s skill set and he knew it.

Bart will surpass him in quality imo and may be one of the break out top GK‘s in European football next season.

That s not how RDZ told the story, he dropped Sanchez to teach him a lesson and had no idea he would have a major toys out of the pram session. He was always going to be the No. 1. Silly boy
